I was going to take a field trip to Music City today and was going to drop in on Tennessee's Alembic Dealer for the past 7 years, Will Gunn in Hendersonville. I decided to call him first and make sure he is open on Saturday afternoon. He said he'd just sold his shop in Tenn. to his business partner and is headed to Iowa to start up a large scale Alembic dealership in Iowa. So our loss is your gain. Will told me he is from Iowa and will have the second largest inventory of Alembics for purchase. We talked some more and I decided I would not make my holiday pilgrimage to Music City since he was boxing up the good stuff and headed West. Not an entire loss for me, Will will be able to sell me an Alembic from his new store without me having to pay Tennessee's 10-percent sales tax. Will said that in the past few months he has had a significant increase in business and inquiries of Alembic. The living legend continues to grow....Anyway. Good luck to Will and I am looking forward to seeing his online inventory.

David,
I was just thinking about that 9.25% sales tax the other day, while contemplating a custom order in the future. Ouch! what a kick in the pants! I wonder since these things can get very, very pricey would the tax be more reasonable, like buying a car for instance. If I remember correctly the sales tax on autos was a flat 7%. I would think that it would apply if you get in the upper echelon costs of an Alembic.

It's KILLING me. I live about five miles from Will's shop, and the idea I could run down there and see several Alembics in one place was just amazing . . . then he moves to Iowa ! ! !

Drat!!

If memory serves, Will will be moving the first 1/2 of December. The phone# in his dealer listing (615)708.7783 is his cell, so you can reach him at anytime. Or EMail at gunnwill@hotmail.com.

I can not imagine a better guy to buy an Alembic from. Certainly will be a 'Field of Dreams' in Iowa now.
