So many musicians have been shaped by his music, style and flare! I know have been. I still use Super Bad to teach begining bass players who don't know how to play. May he rest in peace!

Marlon Brando was the second-best Godfather. No one could perform, dance, sing, or take a mug shot quite like James. I can still see him bent over ... slowly shuffling offstage in time to the music ... overcoat thrown over his shoulders by a compassionate bandmate ... only to suddenly turn around, stand up straight, throw the coat to the side, and rush back to center stage with more energy that a man his age should scientifically be able to summon. Oh for one more "GoodGodY'all". Farewell Mr. Brown.

He had THE SOUND IN HIS DAY. The moves and presence and a bottom groove second to none.
"In a cold sweat!" Huhh!

In his day, no performer with measurable vital signs would DARE follow James Brown on a bill.

He was a force of nature, and truly 'The Hardest-Working Man in Show Business'. Actually, if anybody was, James was THE MAN. And yet he had a social consciousness at a dangerous time for a black performer: I remember separate water fountains and segregated schools. When he released 'Say It Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud', this was way beyond joining PETA or getting on the Global Warming bandwagon. Cities were burning, Dr King was marching from Selma to Montgomery, Ms Rosa Parks was still a young woman, and the Motown package shows were still staying in 'Black Only' hotels on the road.

If you don't own 'Live at the Apollo', tomorrow, go GET IT. Come on, get on up, and get on the scene. . .

I was traveling today and heard an interview he did
last year on NPR and they played a song he recorded
(the name of the title escapes me,something like
"What Kind Of Fool Am I"maybe somebody know's what I'm talking about)
and I never realized what a tremendously soulful voice he had.
I was amazed.
I'd never heard the song before but it was very much different than the real percussive feel he usually employed.
What a talent.

That Sex Machine vid was wild. I was watching thinking "How can those people just be sitting?" then he got everyone to "Get on up" Haha.

I had to watch the mike stand toss/splits move several times too. That man's feet never stopped moving. Awesome! Thank you for posting that!

This was once quite a controversial statement.
