Hey guys

Took a quick trip to Alembic today to take care of some business with Valentino. As always some very cool Alembics waiting to be played!

The pics take me back, I visited the mothership in Sept 2000 all the way fronm Teesside in the UK.
My pics were done with my faithful old Canon AE1 so no digital.
Had my pic taken with Susan, Mica & of course the godfather himself Ron(I am not worthy!!)
Got a wood sample and a bottle of polish.
The place was just so atmospheric, I tell you I would do volunteer work there just for the fun of it!
I must promise another visit before I leave this earth.
The last pic show a very ill guitar, obviously awaiting treatment from the wood doctors

Epiphone? What's the deal with that?

Epiphone has very comfortable necks - probably someone wants to use it as a template for their Alembic. Were I to order a custom guitar, they'd be measuring my Sheraton for the dimensions. Though they could be getting the guts Alemicized instead (hmm - now there's a thought.......)
And allow me to add, there are a LOT of really tasty neck receipes in these pics!

Paul

To bad we did not get a chance to meet, It would have been nice to meet another member. Roger, I am not sure what was going on with the Epiphone probably an electronics upgrade or something. As always chatting with Valentino and drinking Mary's special coffee while visiting is always a treat!

I too was at Alembic yesterday, sorry I missed you, Rory. I did run into Paul who was arriving as I was finishing up. I got to see Jonathan's old guitar, now Paul's, in person. WOW, what a beautiful top! Also got to play Valentino's guitar - another stunner. Lots of eye candy all around. Best of all, Mica and I are working to finalize the artwork for my final inlay. A nice cap on 2006.

Maybe it's just my monitor, but the 4th Alembic from the front, in the first photo (small standard body) almost looks like it's painted dark red. I can see some grain on the lower right of it though. Anybody know what kind of wood that is on top? Maybe purpleheart?

Wow, those first two are awesome. The pinstripes around the center laminates are awesome, and it's interesting how similar they are, yet different to the the reversal of the Ebony and Purpleheart. Coincidence? Or is some bad boy getting TWO awesome beasts made at once? It boggles the mind to think about. They sure look awesome.

And wow, both those basses, and the cool Coco Europa seem to have Mahogany in the necks! Wow, Mahogany has seemed to suddenly catch on as a neck laminate... it seems to be getting almost as popular as Ebony (although the two seem to actually go together usually, don't they? I don't recall seeing any Mahogany necks without Ebony)

Wow, they sure look great!

Rory,

You didn't happen to see a lonely 6 string balance K while you were there, did you? I just know she's all forlorn and dejected sitting in the hallway.

Maybe someday she'll make it into the setup room.

Bradley:

I wouldn't worry about your baby getting lonesome. There is quite the party going on in the hallway. After all, my Further has taken up residence there! (Though she may be moving soon as the work on the final inlay seems to have shifted into a higher gear). There are some amazing axes hanging out in that hallway!

I see my Distillate in the second picture with the tailpiece and pickup removed, so I hope this means it is close to completion, or as Flax says "Is it soup yet"?

Like Bill says,"your bass is in good company." But if you are having a Jones for a six string Alembic I know where you can get one right now on E-bay! Anyway keep smiling and Happy New Year!

Rory,

I'm having a jones for my six string Alembic. :-)

It's super bad. It's dark in that hallway, too.
