Well, I've watched the vids and listened to the cds for years but nothing could prepare me for the awe-inspiring spectacle of seeing Victor and the guys live in Glasgow last night. Victor's playing was unbelievable, eliciting spontaneous cries and applause from the audience all the way through the concert. He took 2 solo spots, incorporating norwegian wood into the first and dropping references to School days and Lopsy lu into his encore solo. Bela Fleck managed to run from Bluegrass, through pop and hard rock to Classical bach on his acoustic banjo solo, holding the audience spellbound. Support was from an excellent all-girl appallachian bluegrass band 'Uncle Earl' who joined the flecktones onstage for a couple of numbers, adding vocals and (irish style) tap to the mix. At one point, jeff Coffin was alternating lines between tenor and alto sax before finishing his solo blowing both at once! Even Futureman took a solo and held up his end superbly throughout the show. last time they came to Scotland was 1992, I'm just hoping they don't leave it so long till the next time. Graeme oops, Forgot to mention, the whole band came out after the show for a meet and greet session. Not bad considering they'd been playing for an hour and a half nonstop and it was now 1am!
