I used to play MAXIMA Gold Strings exclusively until they stopped making them. They were awesome. And since I worked in a music store, I could by them for dealer net. They were really awesome. A set would last me almost a year even while playing 4-5 days a week

Anyway, now I have found that a company called OPTIMA is making the strings now. But it looks like It's gonna cost me $70+ to get a set. And I can't seem to find them anywhere in these united states.

Anyone seen these around anywhere here in the states for any less money. I can't handle paying that much for a set of strings while I'm still dealing with the IRS. Even if they are tax deductable. And not when I used to buy them at cost too.

You are right, they are not cheap, not even in Germany where they are manufactured. I ordered them a year ago or so from saitenkatalog.de, but obviously they are located in Germany as well and it might not be much cheaper for you than to buy from the source you already know. They do ship worldwide, though.

Great strings after all!

Not so sure about that...do a search here. Oliver (senmen) had issues with them wearing out after a few playings to the point that he persued it with the German legal system. I have several sets I bought off Ebay for around $50/set, but I haven't tried them mainly due to Ollie's experience.

Apparently, the Optima strings are not the Maxima versions JAE used, despite the advertising hype.

Buyer beware.

I used the Optima Gold on my Excel-4 and my Epic-4. I remember purchasing them from Just Strings in the United States (landed about $90 Canadian per set, Ouch!). The looked stunning against the shiny brass and they lasted at least three times longer than the DR High Beams that I currently use, but the DR's have a particular signature sound that I'm hooked on, so I switched back.

Hey KMH364. Gotta set of 45-100 you'd wanna sell at the same price?
