I just saw the link elsewhere here to Stanley, Marcus, and Victor playing together. Okay, it was fun... if you haven't yet heard School Days enough for one lifetime. For something to listen to in the background while I continued reading here, I just decided to click on another video from that same site, which happened to be titled "Stanley Jordan plays 'Return Expedition'". I thought he was pretty impressive about 20 years ago, even saw him live once, but probably haven't listened to him in the last decade more than once or twice at most. So, why not... This is not about Jordan. The first 5 minutes is some of the most stunning work I have ever seen or heard on upright bass. I'm not certain of this, but it seems to be Charnett Moffett, and this is probably ripped from Jordan's Live in Montreal DVD (if anyone can confirm or correct, please do). He even uses effects (effectively). Watch. And maybe think twice about switching from fretless to upright... There's supposedly a part two that I haven't seen yet. -Bob |

Bob, the credits on the right say that it is indeed Charnett Moffet. Chops to the hilt, but not sure I could listen to it more than once. Not as bad the School Days extravaganza, though. |

I've seen him do that way back when he came to the UK with Stanley Jorday. I think Stanley Clarkes upright playing on the Chick Corea " A very special concert" takes some beating. It's basically the Griffith Park Collection live. there is some outstanding playing on that dvd. Also the solo he does on Touch from his 1,2 to the bass is nothing short of incredible. I did see it on the net somewhere and it was astounding to watch. Jazzyvee |

That was definitely sick, sick, sick. I've seen Stanley live twice on the upright, and he has similar pyrotechnics. I loved it. Bradley |
