I was browsing the sugar megs website, when I ran across a file titled "alembic rehearsals." Can anyone further illuminate the story behind what this might entail? Here is a link to the music: http://tela.sugarmegs.org/_asxtela/gd1968xx-yyAlembicRehearsals.asx |

It's streaming, so you can't fast forward; you have to listen to the whole thing. It starts out with Lovelight; second is Dark Star; third is St. Stephen. That's as far as I've listened (37 minutes). This may be the Aoxomoxoa sessions. At 41 minutes they finally transition from St. Stephen to The Eleven. Ok, I found a track listing here!! I'm up to 47 minutes; this is actually pretty cool. I've changed my mind. My current guess is that this is after the recording of Aoxomoxoa and is probably rehearsals for the tour whose shows are represented on 1969's Live/Dead. The whole thing ended up being about an hour and a half. I changed my mind again. The first time St. Stephen is followed by The Eleven is 8/21/68 at the Fillmore West in a show that also includes Lovelight and Dark Star. So perhaps this rehearsal predates that show. I haven't listened to the 8/21/68 show to see if the transition practiced here is in that show. (Message edited by davehouck on February 23, 2007) |

I too heard only the sugar mag bit. Then I hit play again and waited. After 15 - 30 seconds the rest started to play. Very interesting cut. Pigpen's organ is very prominent - and very underwhelming. Bill, tgo |

I've had this in MP3 for a few years. If I remember this is from the Sausilito Heliport, at which the Alembic "shacks" were behind the Dead's space. $.02 |
