This is for Dave and, indirectly, for the rest of you super-veteran Alembic fans. I was communicating with another member to discuss the possible sale of one of my basses and the subject of Alembic's history came up. I know there's some stuff on the website and there's a brief Wikipedia entry, but there's not really that much meat out there. I got the idea that somewhere in the FAQ section there should be an Alembic history. Things like timelines, some info about key employees from the old days and the ex-employees that went on to be successful builders, the various moves that the company has made, influential musicians that played Alembics, etc. Maybe even some stories about the motivations behind various products. The great part about the FAQ section is that you can just throw bits and pieces out there as they are found and add over time. No need to do anything complete from the start. I'm sure that some of the board members, especially those of you with low-numbered instruments, have some tidbits that would be of interest to the rest of the world as well. What do you think? | ||

I have looked there, Bill. It was what I was referring to in my original post when I said "I know there's some stuff on the website..." My point is that the official history is a good starting place but that it doesn't grow. It currently ends at 1981 and I don't think it's a particular priority for anyone to extend it. (nor do I think it should be - there are instruments to build!) There are all sorts of tidbits that appear in posts on occasion. Sometimes the trigger is an old bass for sale, an unusual instrument that was built for a famous player, or even some Alembic-impersonator that shows up on eBay. If these things were such a segment in the FAQ, these posts could be harvested to add to the lore in an easily findable place. There are dozens of famous players that have used Alembic to create magic over the years. There are lots of imitators and instruments created by Alembic alumni (Turner, Hyak, Becvar, Fernandes, etc) that always generate a bunch of questions when they appear. It was a newer member that expressed interest and I just thought it sounded like a good idea for minimal effort. | ||
