Got home from the grocery and checked out the tv listings. The local PBS station is doing it's annual pledge drive, and the current special is something called The British Beat; a number of British acts reprising their hits. The name that caught my eye was Rod Argent. I decided to turn it on while working at the computer. Nothing much to get excited about until the Zombies came up. The band did "Time Of The Season" and "She's Not There". This a good band, especially with Argent, and the tunes were great. Nice unexpected treat for a Sunday evening.

Looks like I'm a day late and a dollar short since I don't watch much TV. But thanks for the heads up. :-)

Yep, this one finally made me bite and call 'em with a pledge. Even the Grateful Dead pledge drive broadcasts didn't make me do THAT! :>O

Their lyrics, melodies, jazzy rhythms are timeless. A very underrated group.

I love the Zombies. I like them more than the Beatles. Oracle and Oddesey is my all time fave album.

Followed them around the midlands and saw a few shows. Jim Rodford was playing a Status bass through an Ashdown rig (ex Argent) and his son was on drums with a young session guitarist who is fantastic.

Last I heard they are going to do a reunion with Chris White on bass.

finally they are getting recognised for the great band and great songs... and of course Blunstone's voice is great as ever, even if he looks deathly pale on stage.

I guess the American Idol folks must be reading this thread. Last night the contestants picked songs from the 60's. One of them sang "Time of the Season" while another picked "She's Not There". American Idol .....Zombies ....... seems appropriate in some way! LOL

Wow, anyone who would be foolish enough to cover "Time of the Season" has an artistic death wish. You can't improve on one of the most perfect singles ever.

I also saw that PBS broadcast. The Zombies were far and above the other acts. Peter and Gordon were decent but Eric Burton was awful IMHO. Michael

Yo bassdr so is your spelling - his name is Eric Burdon. The Zombies were excellent, and can almost see my way through the haze. How ironic that American Idol featured the British Invasion of the 60's this past week with at least two Zombie songs performed by the Howard Stern Sunjaya targets.

I always have my Dave Clark moment . . . when suddenly I hear the chorus of 'Glad All Over' start playing in my head. Strange. I always thought 'Ferry 'Cross the Mersey' was a great record. I always thought 'For Your Love' should have been adapted for a Toyota commercial: "Toy-o-ta" sung like the intro. I know if I EVER have to play 'House of the Rising Sun' again, I will demonstrate Spontaneous Human Combustion. Is Peter from Peter and Gordon THE Peter Asher, the producer? Paul thought Yoko's last name was exactly right: Oh-No ! !

I really should have my coffee before I get on this damn forum . . . .

"For Your Love" is a great pop song, but the best version of it is Fleetwood Mac's cover thereof on the 'Mystery to Me' album. The overdubbed backing vocals of Bob Welch and Christine McVie give me the chills.

Yes, its the same Peter Asher, producer of Linda Ronstadt, 10,000 Maniacs and others.

And he's also Jane Asher's brother (Paul McCartney's girlfriend in the old days). Paul wrote "World Without Love" for P&G.

I NEVER knew PMcC wrote 'World Without Love' ! Didn't he write 'Ferry' as well? Is Mr. Bill related to Yoko (oooohhhh-nnnnoooooooo ! ! ! !)? If George Martin was the fifth Beatle and Ian Stewart was the sixth Rolling Stone, who was the 6th Dave Clark Five? Was he just an inverse fraction? Did Brain Setzer replace Toonces the Cat in the Stray Cats? If I had one, there'd be a Hat in the Cat, believe me.

Hey, is that damn coffee ready YET? NO, I don't want any birthday cake with it.

Soppy as it is I don't think Macca wrote Ferry Across the Mersey, though he composed Mull of Kintyre...

Like World without Love....L/Mc also composed 'Bad to me'....It was a mystery to me why they gave that and world without love away and recorded and released what they called 'work songs' - album fillers.

Bringing this thread back to Zombies. ...whilst Peter and Gordon's Peter Asher was a successful Producer and Jane is still on British TV .....

Zombies' guitarist Paul Atkinson (deceased) was a successful A& R person... who handled amongst other things...ABBA.

BTW, Argent also wrote God Gave rock and Roll to you, often miscredited to KISS

Joey, you should give Cuban coffee a try. It's wonderful stuff.

I turned to this show last night and finally caught the Zombies part. The last few times I tried to watch it Peter and Gordon were on. I don't stay with it long because the fund drive people in between get on my nerves.

Joey:

Toonces? Mr. Bill? I smells me another old SNL fan! By the way, I always thought the sixth Stone was Billy Preston, and didn't Murray the K claim the 5th Beatle position?

Community Coffee, 'Between Roast', from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where nobody gives a rat's ass about StarBucks. Loozeeanna coffee, next best thing to Cuban coffee, unfortunately mighty scarce here in Music City (HA!, they tell themselves Austin doesn't exist) USA.

Despite Murray's career, I DON'T mix civilians and musicians. I'm off to consume mass quantities, after I turn Mr. Coffee up to 11.
