I just thought of sharing this info with any club members who may have issues with this. I used to get frustrated from time to time with broken nails... it really can be a drag for someone who plays electric bass and/or classical guitar (and I play both). Years ago, I started ingesting collagen at the advice of a nutritionist. Now, this was NOT for the purpose of strengthening my nails. But at some point, I realized that I'd had a LOT less breaks... and that after I stopped using the collagen, I began to break my nails a LOT more often... So I went back to taking the collagen again... and I rarely break my nails. It makes a VERY noticable difference... I still do break 'em from time to time... but not very often. I get a big container of 250 pills from the local healthfood store for $25 bucks... simple math, 10 pills for a dollar. (It's called "collagen and C.) (Vitamin C) They recommend 6 a day, but I have just 2 a day -they also supply a third of the USRDA of vitamin C... the full amount if I took the full recommended dose. Bottom line... for twenty cents a day, I rarely break nails. It's worth it. I just found out today about some all-natural stuff called "onymyrrhe" that supposedly makes your nails almost invulnerable... and that you can get a 1/2 ounce bottle for that lasts two years for $25 bucks. I intend to order it and try it out soon... if it's as good as the hype, I might use it instead (or also). I'll share info when I get it and start using it. Money is REALLY tight now, though, so I may/may not get it right away. Disclaimer: you have to use the stuff for a couple months before it catches up with you and starts working... it takes about 2-3 months before the results "catch up." (And conversely, if/when you stop using it, they'll stay hard for a couple months before they get weak again.) Also, for best results, you have to eat the stuff on an empty stomach, at least 30-45 minutes before you eat any food... so it's the first thing I do in the morning... followed by my morning cup of coffee and morning constitutional 30-45 minutes later! |
