Been waiting on this for awhile, she's something really special- This is a 1974 Moonstone Earth Axe. It is number 2 of 26 ever made between 1974-1976. The Earth Axe was his first electric design. I would assume that it is within the first ten instruments ever built by Steve Helgeson at Moonstone. It has been sitting with Steve at Moonstone since 1974 in various states of disassembly and he was kind enough to finish it up for me. The body is a solid slab of burled maple, the neck is a three piece maple/beech/maple with a burled maple headstock veneer on the front and a rosewood veneer on the back of the headstock. 23 fret 24.5" scale ebony fretboard. The pickup bezels and control cavity plate are burled maple, the knobs and switch tip are walnut. I had a tone pros bridge, new electronics, tuners, nut and Seymour Duncan pickups installed (59 in neck, Jeff Beck in bridge) as the original parts had gone missing or were very worn. You'd think it would sound bright given the wood combo, not to mention weigh a ton,but this is the lightest and warmest guitar I own. The shorter scale and petite body make it the most comfortable I've played. Huge baseball bat neck which I'm use to. The wood is very crazy, I figured a few of you might appreciate it. Please forgive the painting in the background, it was done by my little brother and does show a breast. I think it is tasteful, but if anyone is offened by it I'll remove the picture. Pretty cool. The Burl Maple is gorgeous. What do the electronics do? Oh yeah, anyone offended by breasts... I mean, come on, how could anyone take such sniveling seriously. "Oh gawd, look! Breasts! How horrible! Run, children, run! Cover your eyes!" Yeah, it's pretty cool. And the wood... it looks like marble. Nifty! |
