It appears to me that the internet has slowed significantly. Maybe it's just me. I even rebooted to see if that would help. Last night I was having trouble viewing anything on YouTube; and tonight downloading takes forever, and simple page loads are taking some time as well. Is it just me; or has anyone else noticed that downloads are taking a lot longer than normal? |

I've had the same problem off and on. But as a whole everything is slower than normal. Especialy video and large audio files. |

If you have a Windows computer, is your C: drive getting near full? On a smaller disk, you need at least 10% free disk space, and at least the size of your RAM reserved for the swap file. Macs probably have a similar sort of functionality - if your system drive is getting full, your computer runs out of breathing space. On a sidenote, I actually get the impression that the Club has better response time today, compared to recently. No more long waits for a posting to finish! By the way, if posting is taking too long, I can stop the browser (IE 7) a few seconds after hitting the post button, and still the message pops up after I wait a little and do a refresh. |

The club runs more or less the same with some days being slower than others. Overall, I've noticed the internet being somewhat slower. I have plenty of C drive space plus a 30 gig slave hard drive that most downloads go on. BTW I use DSL for access. |

Sam, not sure that the slave hard drive for downloads is always the immediate destination for downloads - if you're running Windows, which has a way of temporarily putting everything in the Documents And Settings folder before moving it to the final destination. You still need enough free disk space for performance. Disk fragmentation can also cause slowdowns. And let's not forget the Windows Indexing Service, which is of little use outside of your private folders, but is activated by default on every folder everywhere. Final tip: never save anything in the root of your C:\ drive - always put it in a folder. |

I've not noticed any real difference. The response here on the site seems the same as always. I've been sending some band video files and pictures around and have no issues with the transfer speed. Likewise I work from home and tunnel to my companies network and have not seen any slow down. I am on a wide open cable connection. Keith |

Good points Adriaan. I'll have to look into the temporary stop off on C. I do save things to folders and regularly defragment both C & D drives. |

I call shenanigans. The Internet has been slow for a couple of days (some sites, not all, and not consistently), just as the folks in Washington are deciding on whether to leave it as-is or let telecomms control the bandwidth to "make the user experience better" by fast-tracking *their* content... John, Those providers already prioritize *their* content. That will not change, and cannot be effectively legislated. I suspect that most of the people being affected are on the same (set of) upstream provider(s). For reference, I'm a big fan of net neutrality, but I also like unicorns. Bradley |

Well I did a disk cleanup and defragment to no avail. I then checked my other computers and they were all significantly slower as well. So today I called Earthlink (my ISP). The tech had me press the reset button on the DSL modem; and that solved the problem. Now I can watch streaming video on YouTube again! |

Resetting the DSL modem has become second nature to me, and the routers too (wireless in the basement and in the loft for full-house coverage) whenever I have any issues or suspicions about connection problems. I've got Verizon dsl, and sometimes they change DNS addresses and the modem and routers need a reboot to capture the updated information. I miss Earthlink. John |
