Here is my latest ebay acquisition and the newest member of my "Alembic-inspired" collection. It is an El Maya EM-1300, probably from the late 70's or early 80's. I haven't found too much info on the manufacturer, Maya Guitars, other than they usd to be in Kobe, Japan, but were destroyed in the great quake of '95. The seller thinks this was a salesman's sample and a prototype of which only 3 were made. A couple of people listed reviews on harmony-central, so I suspect there are more than 3 out there. Nevertheless, I'm surprised at how little info I've found on the net, so far. If anyone knows anything about these, please don't be shy.

The guitar is beautifully constructed, though a bit on the heavy side. The carved top is way cool. I haven't had the chance to plug it into my full rig yet (this weekend!), but it sounds pretty sweet on my little at-home amps. Here she is:

Yes! I took a long look at that one on eBay myself. The binding and inlay look superb. I read some really good things about these guitars. Nice catch.

Oh yes, that's a Japanes copy of the rarely seen 'El Mica' guitar prototype . . . .
