And I'd thought I'd give you guys a report on how it was.

First of all, those who expected a "Phil Collins show with Genesis as a backing group" will be greatly dissappointed, they played a lot of the Gabriel material and all in it's entirety, songs like "In the cage", "Ripples", "I know what I like" and "Carpet crawlers" but also stuff like "Domino", "In that quet earth", "After glow" and "Los endos" were being played in the full versions.

Of course the hits were there but they weren't taking up the amount of space in the setlist that many people feared they would take. Afterwards somebody told me that he was dissappointed that they didn't play stuff like "Abacap" and "Jesus he knows me"

As for the performance itself. It was stellar, the band clearly were enjoying themselves and Collins' vocals were at his best. (although I did notice that the pitch of some tunes had been lowered in order for him to reach the high notes) One of the musical highlights was when they played "Follow you follow me" on which Collins both sang and played drums. (Something he doesn't do often since he finds drumming and singing at the same time rather difficult)

Speaking of drumming, the drumduet between Collins and Chester Thompson was really cool since they started it off by whacking on a drumchair before moving to their kits.

As for the axes used.

Mike Rutherford used his new Yamaha Custom shop double neck, a black Yamaha TRB4 four string bass and three Fender American standard series stratocasters, a black one, a silver one and a metallic red one.

Daryl Steurmer used a sunburst Lakland bass, a red Fender Eric Clapton stratocaster and a Godin LG hybrid guitar.

All in all it was a very memorable show, really your money's worth.

Now I really wish I'd bought tickets....although at the prices I've seen I wouldn't be able to afford them anyway!
