About nine months ago, my daughter told me, "dad, Weird Al is pure genius! Can we see him in concert sometime?" Last night on the occasion of her 12th birthday, we saw Weird Al in concert at the Orange count fair. I think Weird Al is alot like the Dead, in the way that people would say, sure their albums are good, but you really have to seel them live to fully appreciate them. They were great, witty, lyrical, and very tight. And the bass player does have an Alembic. I think it is a Stanley Clarke signature model. He played that about half the time, a Warwick, and for a couple of tunes, like the Nirvana parody, he had a Fender-esqe looking instrument. There were many costume changes which were bridged by Al T.V. interviews. If you've never seen these they are worth a look. He really rips a new one for Kevin Ferderline. Seeing them live gave me a whole new appreciation for what he does.

Weird Al is pure genius!

I have had the pleasure of hanging out with him and his band on two occasions. Absolutley Awesome. And I don't think he has ever had a personnel change.

The way I see it. They are the best band in the world. They have to be as good or better than everyone they emulate. They nail the tones / sounds. All the riffs.

And they do it all with costume changes to fit every song.

I've been a fan since I was a kid and I got a copy of "In 3-D" on Vinyl. I still have it.

Weird Al and his band are great. His bass player is really good, and apparently auditioned for Zappa at one time (didnt get the gig), and he is an Alembic user.

I did a DJ gig a few weeks ago for a college graduation party and got a request for some Al. I had to admit that I had everything he ever recorded in my library.

Steve Jay is indeed a great player. He is also the player behind the Alembic documentary which aired on the Futures channel, and which can be accessed in the "News and Announcements" section.

Not yet. I followed them around for a few shows on the Running with Scissors Tour. I'll probably pick it up if I see it at the Record Store.
