I thought this might be a good place to ask if anyone has fond memories of the band Tongue...
I'm trying to learn a little history about a new/old guitar.
(...also did anyone watch the auction for Jerry's bigbsy from 'black beauty' ? )

thanks kindly

Never heard of 'em; but I looked 'em up. They were from Wisconsin, a regional band that was together for around ten years. They only had the one album, from 1969, early in their history. The album has a cover of "Morning Dew" and the title track is a cover of the Donovan classic.

cool dave...
I'll have to get 'keep on truckin'...I think it's an R. Crumb cover.
They played with the Dead...toured with James gang...it drips so much mojo. It's a '69 goldtop that red rhodes repotted the mini humbuckers and added a strat pickup and piezo in '74...and it looks like a '59 it's been played so much.
I was talking to a guy who was ready to sell a bigsby removed from Jerry's black beauty when he replaced it in 1970...he said he was still on the fence, I told I'd be ready and hoped the fence wasn't a pointy one.
That would be neato...hehe

thanks for the response,

peace

So the guitar is a '69 and the album was released in '69; was the guitar used on the album?

no,the guitar was sent back to the factory in late 69 to fix the neck that the original owner modified apparently as soon as he got it home...sanded thru to the truss channel.
The result is a super slim neck with an extra factory skunk stripe. The guy I bought it from has had her since early '70.He says it's on hundreds of recordings over the years...I might find a few.

Radical mods over the years, rare to have them all the 'right' thing to do...the strat pickup is pretty cool on a les paul , and then mixed with the red rhodes ( ala 'velvet hammer pickups' ) rewound and repotted neck pickup...
... amplified with two GT trio(red rhodes designed) preamps giving me 4 outputs ending up at 3 swarts and and oliver....even at low decibels I can get that feeling of big hippy stadium rock shows with my eyes closed.

Make good money; five dollars a day...now I just need a stadium to play.
