I've just heard that there was an earthquake in California, and I wanted to check to make sure our members are all ok. I'm getting indications that it's the Calaveras fault, and that it was centered northeast of San Jose, 7 miles east of Milpitas. Apparently, people in San Francisco felt it pretty good, and that it lasted a while. Apparently a 5.6. One person reported not feeling a thing in Santa Rosa. |

CNN reported that the center of the quake was 5.7 miles below the surface and that deep quakes usually don't do as much knocking things around as ones closer to the surface. We're in a chat with someone located in San Jose right now and she said she had to grab her LCD computer monitor to stop it from bouncing around the table. I guess it was strong enough to be at least annoying. Hope all are okay! |

I was in my car. My wife at home didn't feel it at all, my boy did a little. No biggie in the S.F. Bay Area. Thanks for thinking of us. Bill, tgo P.S. Don't worry, it wasn't anywhere near the mother ship. |

I was sitting at my desk in my office when it hit here in South San Jose. Funny thing is, it took me a minute to realize what was going on. I had just turned up my stereo here , which features a nice little EAW subwoofer (1000 Watts). When my computer monitors started to move......so did I. straight for the parking lot. I just hope that wasn't a foreshock. I guess The Wizard of Santa Rosa is trying out some new electronics. Nice try Ron. |

I was giving a lecture in Berkeley, and didn't feel it - probably because I was standing? - but I heard stuff behind me kind of creaking as the building moved. The people sitting and listening felt it a lot more. One guy was asking a question, and I said "earthquake" into the microphone when I realized what was happening, kind of hoping he would stop talking so that we could enjoy the moment, but he kept talking. When we asked him later he said he didn't even notice! |

I was at work in Modesto (about 50 miles away), sitting down with my hands on a table, and I felt it quite strongly. There were a few small ripples behind the initial shock. The total time was about 15 seconds. It was in the mountains a little bit east of San Jose, and only about 12 miles from Lick observatory. I'm wondering how their telescopes made out. |

Glad everyone appears to be ok. Didn't feel it here in IL, but there actually was one in '03 or '04 at about 1:12 am in the morning I felt. I hears the damn Raccoons in my garbage cans, and then the entire house began to shake. "What the hell are those Raccoons doing???" I thought. |

It wasn't Alembic testing basses again was it??? Maybe Ron has designed a 36" bass driver and was playing a Series Alembic 5 string with a superfilter boosting all frequencies below 50Hz |

OK Larry. I'll see if I can out do that tomorrow night at my rehearsal. We've got about 10k Watts on our Subwoofers. Look for the Shakin' to begin at about 6:30 PM PST. |
