i just got my copy in bluray.
man i tell you,it looks and sounds awesome. excellent add on features incl commentary and interviews.
looks pristine and all this time gone by and the effects still works.
in deference to kubrick the dvd opens wsith the fed warning and goes direct to the film- no promos,trailers and all that other horsebleep we fast fwd through, all his movies are being reissued in hi def

I watched this recently. All the space stuff looked great. The opening scenes -- "The Dawn of Man" -- had the "drawback" one sometimes sees in hidef titles, in that it reveals a little too much. In this case, I was really aware that most of it was shot on a soundstage. You could really tell the backdrops were backdrops.

It was still great, though.

I wish all his movies were coming out on hd. No Strangelove. No Barry Lyndon.
