Gone are the days of partying after the last show of the week(being Saturday) and sleeping in until whenever and making our way to the next town. Now it's "let's get the gear in the truck and get the hell out of here!" Depending on where I'm at my drive home on Sundays is generally between 4-6 hours(today was 11!), I'm running on 3-5 hours of sleep and Red Bull is my best friend since I HATE coffee, cocaine, crack, no doz or Vivarin(jitterbug pills). Funny enough I should be in bed right now or at least 4 hours ago. However these drives wear me out to the point that I can't sleep (and it's not from too much Red Bull). I really can't explain it and I'm not a suffering from a sleep disorder, it's just got to be what these drives are doing to me mentally/physically. And it happens EVERY Sunday.
Good thing Alembic is'nt open 24/7, I'm punch drunk enough to order a full tilt Series II right now. Woooooooooooooooo!

That "road buzz" is hard to turn off once it's been turned on!

Yea but New England cheats! All those cameras and stuff, shame on them. If they do go undefeated there needs to be an ASS-terisk next their name in the hall of fame. (*)

And to get back on track, I've been there before Adam. I worked a day job running an Auto Parts Store 6 days a week, playing music 3 to 5 days a week and drinking like a fish the whole time.
Usually on 2 to 3 hours sleep every day. NO DRUGS but lots of booze.
And on my only day off, Mondays, for the life of me I couldn't make myself sleep late or get in bed early the night before.

The only plus was I didn't have time to spend any money so I managed to save most of it and now I can kick back and enjoy life.

To the original thread-

Funny thing about being "road stoned"... you want to sleep while you're driving but as soon as you stop you're too tired to sleep.

To the hijack-
Yeah, New England cheats. Oh, please. They are the only team with cameras? They're the only ones who got caught perhaps, and in the first 7 minutes of their first game at that. Camera put away they still put a whuppin' on the Jets, just like everyone else who has faced the Jets. In a few weeks when the Cowboys beat the Jets 41-7 will the 'boys need to have cheated to do it? NE is simply just a stacked team and nobody likes it. Except those of us in NE.... nobody seemed to mind those stacked teams St. Landry had all those years. And yes, there should be an "ASS-terisk". To denote the extra two games it will take to obtain a perfect record!

JP-

I'm not a Patriot fan, but as a lifelong Charger fan and AFC homer I actually rooted for the Patriots when they won their first Super Bowl. They're success wasn't about individuals, but about a team and a system and I liked that.

The most recent version of the Patriots is nothing short of disgraceful in my opinion. Bellycheat's "misinterpretation" of the rules is flat out cheating. Add that with the disrespectful behavior that the Patriots have shown over the past year (incidents after the playoff win over SD, the cheap shots- Wilfork on Losman [and MANY others]) have completely turned me against the patriots.

NE is indeed a 'stacked' team. They're playing SCARY football right now, but they're also doing a pretty good job of thumbing their nose at every other team in the league and to most of it's valued traditions (running up scores) and I doubt there are many non-Patriot players or fans leaguewide that respect what the Patriots have become. IMO they're setting themselves up for a huge fall- IF and when they lose, you can bet that everyone outside of the ESPN studios in Bristol and New England will be rejoicing.

Sorry for the sidebar.

Getting back to "Sunday Road Buzz", I know whatcha mean, Adam. I usually only have a 1-2 Hr drive home, but I still get to bed around 4-5, and always get up by 8-9, resulting in feeling like Doo-Doo all day Sunday, and usually have PRACTICE with the other band on Sunday afternoon!
.O Sleeping with one eye open! At least I don't have to worry about the 3-5 nighters anymore. My Day gig does well to let me play Saturday night, with the occasional Friday thrown in for a little ADDED stress!!
But, we Love it! BCool, Mike, Tho
P.S.- It doesn't get any better the older ya get, either!

Here I am again, after a 15 hour drive(no s**t) putting down a couple of Sam Adam's to help kill that road buzz/punch drunkiness(is that a word?) and todays trip was the hellish sleigh ride home! Starting from Ft. Lauderdale,Fl. and ending up in Knoxville,Tn.There was simply 895 miles of Thanksgiving go home traffic, $3.30+ gas prices, extremely dirty toilets(I thought these only existed in Penn. Station and Jersey Turnpike/Garden St. Parkway rest. stations),rain, various accidents(god help those victims and to hell with those blood suckers that slow down to see the unfortunate souls in peril-you SCUM-BAGS!) four cans of 12oz. Red Bull and a spirited phone call to my dad on his 68th birthday. I actually kind of enjoy the delirium that comes with a lack of rest. It seems I can focus and/or think of things in ways I have'nt quite thought of. dang I'm tired..........anybody got a cool bass to sell?

Sam, we'll probably be back in 3-4 months. That's pretty much how our schedule works but we will be in Brunswick,Ga. on the 14 of December if your up for an hour drive north of Jax.
Spose, no rockstar here ( I don't think I'm pretty enough) and drinking that stuff has'nt helped!hehehehe.. I am enjoying it very much and have been since we started touring. Doing so has also afforded me the opprutunity to see how bad the live music industry has taken such a blow over the years. It's very sad out here and to try to put something together with the intentions of touring these days is something I don't think I would try again.

When I first started playing live, in the late '70s, there were probably a dozen places a person could go in my home town to hear hot bands from all around the country, not to mention the dozens of small bars booking local bands. Now it's down to a handful of bars, and they're paying not much more than what they were paying back then. I don't think there is such a thing as a travelling hotel-lounge band anymore. Karoke, on the other, slightly less attractive, foul, stench-smelling hand, is everywhere. :-(

Yep Karoke seems to be every where. One of my daughters follows a circuit around the local clubs. Not to mention more and more weddings and corporate gigs are going to DJ's.

S**t I gave that up years ago and only do local gigs..50 mile radius(UK remember!)
But I do sympathise if you have to travel to work.
2400wattman...joking aside, your health is at risk travelling and sleep deprevation at the same time.
Where I live in the UK live music is on the upturn so venues are pretty much abound for all styles

Adam, I was thinking of your situation Saturday as I spent 8 hours in my truck, half of that in freezing rain and ice, and later when I couldn't sleep because I saw white lines whenever I closed my eyes.. :0

Terry and John, it's not that bad when you make time for stops to get out and walk around to get the blood flowing. Stretching out helps as well and of course Red Bull(tastes like crap but it works) helps a LOT. It's best to get out and do something as opposed to trying to drive like a bat out of hell to get home. About 8 years ago we were driving west on I-70 through Indiana, my singer was driving, drummer was in passenger seat and I'm in the back. We hit a patch of black ice and it sent us in a 360o spin which we fortunately recovered out of and no one was hit. But that had nothing to do with any sleep deprivation. wooooooooooooo what a ride!!!

Years ago I worked a day job five days a week and played in a successful, local-only cover band 5-7 nights a week for about two years. I managed 3-4 hours' sleep a night for that length of time.

I came home cold stone sober one night towards the end of those days and drove around my block for thirty minutes as I couldn't remember which house was mine . . . I'd STILL be circling that block today if my wife hadn't seen me keep going by and ran to the end of the driveway and flagged me down. I walked in the house and collapsed for three days.

DON'T do this to yourself. I always said, "I'll sleep when I'm dead", ha ha. Damn lucky I'm not !

Incidentally, Red Bull is NOT the preferred jump-start for yours truly: What ALWAYS wound me right up? A double-decker Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme and a 20 oz Pepsi. You can jump tall buildings at a single bound and read 'War and Peace' in thiry minutes behind THAT little snack break!
