Hey, Oscar,

The Ibanez SR1006 Prestige Series has a nice, tight string spacing, sound great, play nice, and aren't overly expensive (around $1500). In the middle of the price range, the F bass BN6 is a beautiful bass, also with a tight string spacing, but they ain't cheap ($3600-up, depending on variables) Or, like ya said, The Mothership could make you whatever you want! Does MusicMan make a 6-string?

Hope this helps, Mike, Tho

The neck dimensions on an Alembic six string bass with a 'classic' neck taper are 2.000" at the neck and 3.125" at the 24th fret, if that helps.

Mike, musicman just came out with the Bongo six string (you may be able to check it out on there website).I am looking for spacing similar to Marks bass ( The eight string king) I have been playing guitar for around ten years and find it hard to switch back and forth from the narrow grt. neck to the hugh bass neck. let me if you come up with anything. Thanks Oscar

The Fender Jaguar Bass VI has super tight string spacing like a guitar. It's also tuned like a guitar that is, EADGBE. It's strings are true Bass Guages starting at .095 for the low E. It also has a 30" scale just like a short scale Bass. I think it cost around $800. It's been discontinued for a while, but you might still find one around or used.
Worth cheking out.

Rami ;)

Hey, Oscar!

Thanxxx for the heads-up. Didn't see anything on the MM website, but I'll keep an eye out '). I checked out several 6's before I bought the Ibanez. I really liked the F Bass, too, but I spent a lot less on the Ibanez, just to try a 6. I'm glad I didn't put out a whole lot, as I have fairly small hands and don't play the 6 very often, I normally play 5 or 4. If you're switching between Guitar and Bass, do you really need a 6? If it's what you really want, I totally understand, but it's a whole lot easier to transition between a guitar and a 4 or 5 string bass than a 6. Or,If it's the high "C" string with it's voicing possibilities you're after, you might want to consider a 5-string tuned EADGC. Just an idea...
Mark has really good narrow spacing on his 6, and if you decide to go that way, he is very knowledgeable on that subject, or anything else Alembic. You might want to shoot him an e-mail!
Anyhoo, Thanks for the info, Good Luck, Mike, Tho

Wow Danno, that's a beauty. I'm afraid to ask what it cost! Is it tuned like a guitar or a six string Bass with a high C?

beadgc. Ordered it in 86, got it in 87. It was actually cheap due to a inlay pricing faux pas and I got it at dealer price through a guy I did sound/roadie work for. My first custom order and 2nd Alembic. It was my main workhorse bass for 15 years. At the time the inlay price was $2000. I had dreams of becoming a dealer and underselling everyone but I had not the capital. Perhaps someday?

bass6, i wish you success in the hunt.

The Jaguar Baritone Bass VI was a Japanese model that was discontinued in 2006. It featured a fixed Stop Bar tailpiece as opposed to the original Bass VI's Tremolo. The last one I saw was selling for around $800. An original 60's Bass VI is too rare and way ridiculously overpriced to even consider.

I can't remember if you already asked/and/or I already told you... but just for the record, here are the measurements on my new 6-string bass:

I just measured them with my calipers (and double-checked) and found -to my surprise- that while the neck is supposed to be 2 inches at the nut, and 2 & 2/3rds at the 24th fret, the actual measurements are even more narrow... 1 & 29/32nds of an inch at the nut, and 2 & 9/16ths at the 24th fret.

Fortunately, while this is even more narrow than what I'd spec'ed (almost the same profile as my Les Paul guitar!!!) I'm comfortable playing it!

Good luck in your search for a narrow-spacing 6-string!
