It took a little longer than I had hoped, I think Roger got caught up with his new LED knobs, but they are more than worth the wait. A small but significant final touch to my Viola custom. (imagine Austrian accent here) I'm as happy as a little girl.

Two of them seem to be concentric, which comes out to five controls for one p/up - what do they do?

The pickups and electronics are EMG. The pickup is an EMG-TW. There are two separate pickups in the housing, a dual coil humbucker, (high output, lots of midrange growl) and a single coil Jazz like pickup, (more scooped, very crisp highs and big bottom). The single knob is a push pull volume, push=humbucker, pull=single coil. The electronics are EMG's BQC?, a three way EQ. First stacked knob is Bass and treble shelving, with treble selectable (inside dip switches) to 2.5, 3.5, 5, or 8K shelf. The second stacked knob is mid B/C with a variable frequency 300 - 3K.

I love the sound and feel. EMG's are low impedance pu's and as such just seem to sing. I was at a jam today and the two basses I brought were my Epic and my Viola. When I ordered the Viola neck from USA custom guitars I modeled the dimensions as a cross between my Epic and my Jazz bass.

It doesn't sound quite like anything I can reference. It's totally hollow inside, but the walls are 3/4" thick. Brass bridge, bone nut, ebony fretboard, and maple top, it can sure get snappy and pungent in the high end. With the EQ's flat it is on the bright side, but there are wide variations with the active 3 band.

I sure had fun today, switching between the two. I feel blessed. And losing the black plastic EMG knobs in favor of the maple THG's, well... if I were single I could use this bass to get girls:-)

BTW, when I first got this bass I started a thread with more details.

It devolves into a fun Beatles thread........ James
