Actually, the idea of somewhat self-contained USB mics is what's really got my curiosity. Of course, USB direct boxes would be terribly nifty as well. And think of one day soon running a single USB cable from the stage (in lieu of a snake) or back to the power amps (and also containing the lighting scene-change signals).. I didn't remember correctly-- it does use Ethernet (Layer 2), it isn't a raw cable connection. There are other devices that will inject an audio signal over Cat 5, but they are analog, not suitable for snake replacement (unless you want to run a lot of Cat 5).
