Is ‘blackened brass hardware’ coated brass? Is it painted (enameled finish)? Is it a black brass alloy?

I searched the 'Must Reads' but did not find the answer

I believe it is like a chroming/plating technique.

Blackened brass is a black nickel oxide plating technique. Recently, the plater has added a hardened clear coating, which makes the color a deeper black. Previously, it was more of a gunmetal color.

The only reference I've found here states that it is plated.

Thanks Mica!!
