Hey, fellow Alembecians, Just wondering if any of you are using Schroeder cabs, esp. 1212 or 1210 cabs, regular or the "lites" with the Neodymium speakers. I've searched the archives and saw a few comments, but they were a little dated, and I'm curious as to how they have performed and held up over time, and to any problems or concerns that have developed and how they were resolved. I appreciate any input or feedback. Thanxxxx, Mike, tho =] |

I received this email regarding a Schro 412L from a customer yesterday: Used it in a loud practice today and it was fantastic. It really lives up to all I read on talkbass - it cuts through, spreads the sound everywhere, loads of fat low mids... All together a fantastic rock cabinet. Had a very large room (Sound Level's biggest), Deniz was using a 100W Marshall + quad and a 75W Groove Tubes head + 2x12 for boost during solos, drums of course plus keyboards. Absolutely no problem filling out the sound and had to turn down. Quite remarkable given the size, and weight, of the 412. [The amp] is a Yamaha P7000S. The 7000 will do 3KW into 4 ohms (bridged), 2KW into 8. I running it bridged. Have the input attenuator around 12 o'clock, gain on the F-1X about the same or a little below. Deep switch on for extra mids. Compressor lights up every now and again which is about right. Huge sound. |

I own a 1212R that I don't use much any more as it was replaced by a 21012L. I love the things. The neo speaker versions are a bit more accurate, I think. The 1212R has a very vintage vibe to it, very warm and punchy. I will either sell it one of these days or replace the drivers with neos and use it for rooms where stage space matters or leave it in the practice space. In any case, some of the comments you probably found are mine and they are still as current as when I wrote them. This past summer I played an outdoor cancer benefit on a bill with several heavy bands including a Led Zep tribute, Kiss tribute, and guys playing the Judas Priest - Metallica range. There was another groups doing more general stuff, like my band, as well. These guys had full SVT rigs and a Boogie 400+ into 2x15 monster cab. My 21012L kept up with them all, no problems. I was using the power section of an iAmp800 behind a tube pre. We also had a good sound crew that day to bring everything up, and they were able to dial in a tone for us very quickly, no DI involved. I've played for a couple hundred people indoors and more like 400 outdoors with no PA support on other days and it works great. Admittedly, I haven't been going low B on any of these so you might want to do some more research if that's important to you. Jorg is a great guy to do business with. I got my 1212R from someone locally who tried it once and blew it up. He was a bit clueless about gear and sent it back to Jorg who replaced it at no cost in spite of the fact that it was clearly user error. When the new one came back, he sold it to me still in the box and it's been great. Another guy locally bought one from someone who swapped out the horn on his own. Jorg helped him troubleshoot it and then sent him the replacement horn. I'm not sure if any money changed hands on that one, but I doubt it. If it did, it was cost on the part. Support-wise, there's no one better. |

Mike, I have had the Schroeder cabinets now for about two years and still love them. I have had no problems at all. I find that I can hear myself on stage much better than with the Eden rig I have. The Eden sounds great, but for me, the Schroeder cabinets are a better fit. As for the low B, these cabinets have no problem in that department. As the others have stated, Jorg is the best guy to deal with. He is very informative, and usually replies quickly to questions. Good luck in your search and post on your outcome. Regards, Pete |

David, Bob, And Pete: thanks for your input. I've been looking at BagEnd, Acme and Schroeder cabs to replace the Combo/cabinet rig I've been using. I've had a couple of conversations with Jorg Schroeder over the last couple of days, and after describing my needs, he's suggested a 1212L. It's the one he uses, and he thinks it will fit my needs perfectly. I've never used 12's for bass before, usually 10's, but I'm gonna give them a try. Jorg is very informitive, helpful, and from all I've been reading, stands behind his product 110%, unlike some of the other equiptment manufacturers I've had the misfortune of dealing with lately. Guess Beaver is gonna get some MORE of my money..... Thanks again for your help, BCool, Mike =] |

Mike: I've heard good stuff about Jorge and his cabs too (I'm both tempted and curious to try them out). But the reason I'm writing is about using 12's. I've had a Dr Bass 212 (with a 6 and horn) for a couple of years and can't tell you how impressed I've been. 12's really do combine the best of the responsiveness of 10s with the deep characteristics of 15s. Give them a try. I've talked to a lot of others who've been pleasantly surprised. Bill (the other one) |

Mike, I just recently picked up a GK 1x12 Neo combo. Like you, I've always used either 10's or 15's. I'm really happy with the 12 in the combo. It does fine with the low B and when I plug in one of my Bag End S15's as an extension cab it is just sublime. |

Thanks, Bill,(too), and Toby. Yea, I've been researching the "12" thing quite a bit here recently, and I feel pretty confident in giving them a try. I recently read an interview with Jonas Hellborg, and he gave quite a detailed dissertation on the merits of the 12, and that was what he had loaded in his Signature Cabs. That, along with Jorg's personal recommendation, pretty well convinced me to give them a try, also. Not to mention the recommendations of fine fellow Alembecians I'll keep ya'll posted-Have fun, Mike, tho =] |

I've gravitated to 12's as well. Accugroove whappo jr. and epi ul 212. Still have t310 and acme low b4. The schroeder design is very interesting but I'm trying to economize these days. Good luck in your hunt Mike. |

Mike, I have the 12/12 and the 410. I have used them together and as individual cabinets. I really love them both. I don't think you can go wrong with anything that Jorg has put out. Regards, Pete |
