Hey y'all. Saw the new U2 3D Movie here in NYC over the weekend. Pretty great. I saw the 3D Beowulf when it came out. Not a great movie, but visually stunning. Like watching a video game. There's gonna be more and more 3D movies, I think. Go check one out when you get a chance; take the kids to see Journey to the Center of the Earth or something. It's neat technology- a whole lot different from Jaws 3D with the two tone glasses. As for U2, they've always done interesting things. I remember the Rattle and Hum in the movie theaters. The performance here is great, and if you catch it in a good theater it sounds amazing. Really great sound. And the 3D, while not as much of a trip as Beowulf (that was all digital craziness), is still pretty amazing. It doesn't feel like you're front row, it feels like you're on stage, checking the EQ on The Edge's amp. Also, I was born a bit too late to see things like the Woodstock movie or Monterey Pop in theaters, though I understand they had good runs. I can't think of any real music movies that have been in the theaters since Rattle and Hum (1988); let alone a full-on concert. So I applaud U2 for doing it, and ask you to do your part to show the industry this type of venture can be profitable. This looks to be the official site: http://www.u23dmovie.com/ -Jack |
