Return To Forever Announces Summer Tour

Return To Forever's lineup of keyboardist Chick Corea, bassist Stanley Clarke, guitarist Al Di Meola and drummer Lenny White have announced a tour that will represent their first extensive engagement together in 30 years.
The foursome will play more than 50 dates across North America and Europe, featuring primarily classic music from their albums. Beginning in Austin, Texas, on May 29, the group will swing across the U.S. and Canada in June, cross the Atlantic for July dates in Europe from Lithuania to London, then return to the States for an East Coast run.

The tour will include outdoor festivals such as the Montreux Festival, the Montreal International Festival, Spain's San Sebastian Festival, France's Nice Festival and the Freihofer's Festival in Saratoga Springs, New York.

A Return To Forever anthology, compiled from the albums Hymn Of The Seventh Galaxy, Where Have I Known You Before, No Mystery and Romantic Warrior, will also be released to coincide with the tour. This collection, which was produced by founding RTF members Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke, is the first to include music from all these albums in one double-CD package.

Craig, thank you for posting this. I saw this thread in time to score 2 pretty decent seats in Denver for my 14 year old and myself. I can't wait. This is going to be SWEET.

Changed indeed Sam. They have a Horse track right up the street from the Nokia center (the venue for RTF), the Cowboys new stadium being built a couple miles away too.

Boston and Philly get The Flecktones as an opening act in August. We might have to go. Lisa wants to spring for the $359 tickets that include back stage event access, front row seats and a meet and great. Sounds like fun, but I always prefer the sound from the 30th row.

I also noticed while researching this that The Flecktones will spend a week at Yoshi's toward the end of the year. I had tickets to see Stanley at Yoshi's a couple years ago, but circumstances arose that canceled my trip. I remember hearing it was a great place to see a show.

I purchased tickets to the Philly show just for the reason that the Flecktones will be there also. Since Chick has been touring with Bela Fleck and Victor Wooton with Stanley Clark I think there might be a good chance for some intermingling of groups during the show or encore.

Bob,
I say listen to Lisa. I went for the full package since Rene and I are making this our big vacation of the year. Should be fun and a great way to fill a day.

I caught the show Dallas last night. A must see. Great show. Stanleys acoustic solo was awesome.
He played his brown bass during the first set and the acoustic the second set. He had another bass setting on a stand, looked to be one of his Spellbinder basses, but never touched it.

Stanley appears to be the only one to have grown period-correct sideburns.

Just saw them in Portland, Oregon. I'd say they are maybe the best players I have seen, anywhere. Stanly also played a great standup bass. Well worth seeing no matter what style of music you like. All of them used a lot of effects, but pretty tasty stuff. Al has Mesa and Fuchs amps with a couple of floorboard type units going. I thought maybe Stanley was a little hard to hear at times due to the effects he was using. That Series 2 has a thundering low end.

The show was fantastic. I was spellbound the whole nite. The show started off with a recording of Joe Zawinul and Miles Davis doing In a Silent Way. Then Karim Abdul Jabar came out and dedicated the show to Joe and Miles, and then introduced the band. The setlist seemed to be the same as the other shows. The band sounded awesome..It was Chicks birthday yesterday, so we all sang happy birthday to him...The show lasted about 3 hours.. To quote Lenny White, "with all the rap music, hip hop, and american idol crap, Return to Forever is a testiment to instrumental music", and "with all the boy bands out there, Return to Forever is a Mans band" A good time was had by all. AD played his black Les Paul, and he played two other PRS guitars..Dont pass up a chance to see this band. It is is well worth it......
