Just got the sad word that Martin Fiero passed away about 40 minutes ago. This is very sad day as Martin was an extraordinary sax player and one of the great "characters" to ever have come from the Grateful Dead's rock and roll family... from his tracks on "Wake of the Flood" to his awesome work in Legion of Mary and later years with Zero, Martin left us with a great legacy of music and warm memories. |

Martin Fierro was really nice to me when I introduced myself to him in NYC about 8 years ago. Really personable guy.... He just raved about Garcia and how much fun he was to play with. Legion of Mary is the most underated JG if you could that about any of his non-GD projects. |

I met Martin when Zero played with Shockra at Hamilton College (along with the Spin Doctors and God St Wine). Along with the other Zero guys, he was really great to hang with. A good time was had by all (except the Spin Doctors who were upset that our logo was bigger than theirs on the merch). Edwin |

Sad news indeed. May the four winds blow him safely home. Peace Tom |
