Something amiss here(or is it my lack of knowledge), I cannot recall seeing a volute on the headstock of an Alembic but then again I don't know much about the Excel model Why would you want to replace the pu's???..strange |

The volute is standard on the Excel. |

All of the set necks have a volute. In this case he went from a single pickup to two pickups. You can see the wood patch in some of the photos. Why replace the Alembic electronics only the owner can answer that. To me it's not a big deal if the original electronics can be put back in. In this case however it is not possible to restore it to original condition. Keith |

It can also be that the owner got the bass without electronics and decided that it needed some Delano pickups. |

I understand that everyone has their likes and dislikes, but the Fatboy pickup is a key element of the Excel. That modification has (in my opinion) ruined the Bass. It may have a nice sound and (being an Alembic) I'm sure it plays and feels great, but it's no longer an Excel. And not worth anything (to me).

There's a recent interview with Trip Wamsley in the German "Gitarre & Bass" magazine (also to be remembered for featuring a splendid review of an MK without listing it on the Contents page) where he seems to endorse Delano pickups, putting them on a par with Alembic. |
