Flax:

What kind of amp are you hooking up to?

My suggestion would be to go from the full range output of the F-1X to the input of channel A of the SF-2, and then out from the ouput of channel B on to the power amp. For me, I tend to think that the tube and the bass, mid, treble of the F-1X do the preliminary tone work, and then the SF-2 does the more detailed tone shaping; so that's why I run the instrument into the F-1X and then go from there to the SF-2.

It does seem that going to the SF-2 first would also be a reasonable approach as far as tone shaping. However, it does seem that signal gain balances will need to be accounted for since you will be changing the input signal strength that the F-1X sees. Thus for purposes of controlling signal gain along the path, I like having the F-1X ahead of the SF-2.

A post I made three years ago here talks about setting the SF-2 up as a three channel mixer.

Flax:

If you haven't had time to tweak with the SF-2 and this new set up, I wouldn't break it in on stage. I'm having some technical problems with my guitar synth. I couldn't get it 100% right at our last rehearsal, so I'm not using it at the gig this afternoon. IMHO the stage is a bad place to experiment with new equipment and set ups.

I agree with Bill. The FX-1 is one thing - an SF-2 is a whole 'nother animal. It's takes time to experiment with the Superfilter - it is different conceptually than any other device I have used - unless of course you've used one before! Also, be sure you have a backup rig if you haven't had a chance to put the FX-1 through its paces...

I guess it depends on the tolerance of your bandmates, but I find myself experimenting on stage quite a bit! It's a skill like any other, so you learn to ditch when necessary, but I have had a pretty good success rate. My latest experiment involves running a 24 channel split into some Metric Halo boxes and then making in ear monitor mixes for my drummer and keyboard player and myself. I gave my drummer a Behringer BCF2000 so he can do his own mix. We all love it, even though there were some moments when I thought it was going to leave us all high and dry a couple times. It's so nice to get consistent sound from night to night.

i agree with you bill
i just set up the rig with just the fx1 and am going to use the epifani 15 i got from banno instead of the acme- the epi has a less punch than the acme but the low notes sound really warm- in tandom these 2 cabs are just wonderful
new strings- reset the truss rods-intonation and string height- scarlet is ready to go
btw- wolf is in the closet-hiding...
oh btw bill-i took your advice about throwing an ad in craigslist- just that i was looking for work
got a call from a band that does rock covers and its 60% of the stuff i used to play fridays///

Jeff,I run my sf2 through the fx loop on the f1x and run the 2 channels as low pass and high pass. I too am venturing back into the cover scene during my downtime from Marra's. Breaking out the midi basspedals and some lead singing again.
Best of luck on your new set up and band.
