I was always a big Harry Chapin fan, I got to see him in concert 2 times before his untimely death in 1981. yesterday I found a DVD of one of 1977 concerts filmed in Germany called "Harry Chapin Rockpalast live - 25th Anniversary" so I bought it, when I played it, to my surprise Harry's Lead guitar player and bass player were playing Alembic Series 1's. the show was filmed infront a small crowd, the lighting was good and the sound was very live, it was just like Harry was in your living room. so if you were ever a Harry Chapin fan you should get this DVD, besides there are TWO Alembic's to look at and listen to, A Series 1 Guitar and a Series 1 Bass David T |

I got to play that bass. Harry played at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa in about 1977. We were sitting in the balcony, and at the start of the show they lowered the house lights and the band came out on stage. I saw this row of red lights move onto the stage. The lights came up and there was John Wallace with this beautiful bass. This was the first time I had ever seen an Alembic in person. After the show I went up to the stage and complimented Mr. Wallace on his playing. He thanked me and said that most people commented on his singing. I asked him about his bass, and he said that if I helped him move his amp off the stage I could play it. We went down to the dressing room where he had a small amp set up, handed me the bass, and said he had something to take care of. He left me with the bass for at least 30 minutes (well, Harry did come in looking for him as we chatted a bit). I've been in love with Alembics ever since. I'm hoping to buy my first sometime in the next year. |

For those who are John Paul Jones fans, the 1979 Knebworth concert on the latest Zeppelin DVD shows him playing his gorgeous Alembics, series II( I believe) 4 string standard omega shape, and his 8 string triple omega series II (?) with zebrawood top. They sound great...real heavy duty... Valentino |
