Is the DS5 only used to power a series instrument... or can it achieve/be used for anything else? I'm interested in splitting the signal from my non-series SC bass and feeding one signal to an F-1X and the other signal to another amp... probably a crazy idea.

I don't think the DS5 would help much for what you want to do. However, I'm guessing there are signal splitters that will do exactly that.

Will a signal splitter (AB box) 'halve' the output signal to each amp though? Are there any good rack-mount 1U splitters you could recommend Dave? I have a Boss LS2 currently but use this to split the clean 'input' from the effects input which is a different purpose. thank you.

I've never used a splitter, so I can't really "recommend" one. I was looking at this little box at one point, but the idea I had wasn't feasible. I wanted to switch between two different preamps, but that won't work; I think you have to have two complete rigs. There are other folks here that have a lot better understanding of this stuff than I do.

I split my signal all the time - I use a passive box by the Japanese company Hao (probably not available here in the US, but here's a link). One cheap option would be the Bigshot AB-Y by Radial. I do this often - split the signal and run one clean, one with effects, etc.

Hi,

I do that !
I made small box with 1/4 stereo phone jack and 5pin jack.
Signal output cables are simply connect in a box as old series circuit.

Stereo 1/4 phone short cable connects to Anniv.bass (Anniv. circuit has stereo output.), and stereo-mono 1/4 phone cable connects all other basses.
Of course, you can do simply 1/4 phone - 5pin jack cable as extention cable.

My rigs are setup for series basses, but I play Distillate, Anniv.bass, etc...

I have the WOBO ABY box that Dave references. I use it to split the signal from my mono guitar (usually my Further) into two channels of an F-2B with a Mesa 50/50 stereo power amp. It's very convenient to use the "A/B" function to set each channel separately, and then the "Y" function to play through both at the same time. It works very well, no problem.

I don't know about splitting the signal but I was thinking of have my MK basses fitted with the 5 pin plug so I could not rely on batteries. I believe Mica said this could be done.
