Does anyone know if it is possible to get hold of The Who's set from Live Aid 1986, in any format?

Somewhere around my house I still have the entire MTV LiveAid broadcast on 3 VHS tapes. (Recorded in SLP, something like 16 hours worth.) Because of the slow recording speed, the sound quality is iffy.

I watched a portion of these tapes a couple of years ago and remember being totally annoyed at how MTV kept inserting their "v-jays" into the broadcast in a lame attempt to stamp-mark their presence on the event.

Is there anyway you could drop The Who part of the soundtrack on to MP3, CD or cassette? If you have a PayPal a/c, I'll pay you for any expenditure. That offer goes for anyone who can help me, but please, no real ropey copies, only something that is of some worth.

Just out of curiousity, what interests you so much about this particular set?

I watched it go out live in 1986, but the BBC satellite link failed during 'My Generation' and wasn't restored until the end of 'Pinball Wizard'. So I'd like to hear those two songs for a start. But my main interest (apart from the fact that I'm a big fan of The Who) is the sound of Entwistle's Alembic!

I thought I would post a follow-up to this...

I won't bore you with the story, but I have got hold of all four songs from The Who Live Aid set (what is available anyway) as MP3 files, 320kbps. If anyone is interested, please contact me OFF this Club as I'm sure that those nice folks at Alembic won't want to be associated with this subject!

Cheers,

Rog
