Thanks for the heads-up, Keavin! Looking forward to hearing that - Marcus and Stanley are my absolute heroes on bass, and while I've never been a huge fan of Victor up to now (technically, he's astounding, but I've never really cared for his music or tone), I'm willing to be converted!

Interesting listening to those clips - I don't hear much of Stanley's signature tone - is he using the Spellbinder for most of this album? If so, it's a pity: I miss the Alembic sparkle! I can tell Marcus' sound from a mile off, but without the Alembic sparkle, Stanley sounds a little, uh, 'diminished' to my ears, too close in tone to Victor on his Fodera. Specifically, the beginning of Los Tres Hermanos - that sounds like Stanley's playing, but not his usual Alembic sound.

But I'll reserve judgement until I've heard the whole thing and read the inlay!

I had a quick flick through some of the tracks and thankfully no-one is overplaying. I wondered whether the three of them on the same record, it would end up being a bass shredfest. But thankfully it doesn't sound like that.

wonder if they will come to the UK
I guess every bass player on the globe will be purchasing that one!
I think to the uninitiated it would all sound like the same person.

Have they allocated each player a specific channel as victor and steve bailey do on their bass extremes cds?

Terry, if they come to the UK they'll get no further north than Camden ;-(

The CD finally arrived in the post yesterday. I'm on round the 4th listening and I have to say I really like most of it. For a change, it's not just a bass players album, most of the music is ensemble playing although I guess the whole CD will appeal mostly to we Bass players ;-)

As far as the instruments Stanley is using, alot of the lbum sounds like it's beig played o an Alembic but I don't think I've heard him playing anything on a spellbinder recently so I have no point of comparison. The sleeve notes state..
"Stanley Clarke plays Alembic basses and a 'Spellbinder custom tenor bass'" so you can form your own opinions*

Graeme

* mine is that Stanley's touting an instrument he doesn't play as he has a financial interest in the company (and who can blame him).
