Does it seem to anyone else that there is an increased police presence in many places ?

These days I often see a good half dozen cops throughout the course of the day when I am out and about. Even in the rural community I live in I often see 2-3 staties running about.

Let's hope so. If you live in a murder-a-day place like I do the more the merrier.

haha....let go Bill...My encounters with cops have been increasing of late due to their extra presence. Not only have I gotten tickets for going 5 over the speed limit at 2:00 a.m. on a rural highway, but I was a passenger in a car whose driver parked too far from the curb while he ran into a laundromat. A cop pulled up and started hassling ME because my friend (the driver ) parked too far away....

I didn't see as many in Pennsylvania as I did going through Delaware. I suspect that property tax collections are down with the housing bust so the government is just trying to replace missing revenue. :-)

Around here I haven't noticed any increase. Most of the time the only sheriff I see is the one that lives a mile or so down the road.

Cops are like women...Can't live with em...Can't live without em! :-) We bitch went we get a ticket (and I've gotten a few) but whos the first person you call when you really need help? It's the world we live in. They are necessary and not (a necessary evil) :-)

As gas prices go up it costs more to keep the cruisers on the street. More tickets equals more revenue.

I'm told that here in Indiana they add a fuel surcharge to the fine for moving violations..

Come to the UK where "cops" are virtually extinct!

Our soft, liberal, lawless country is buckling under the strain of people doing as they please with no fear of any consequences! Official figures show that crime is falling - the simple fact is that crime is made as difficult to report for the ordinaty person as possible by "the system" so that the figures magically become acceptable. Statistics? always there to be violated!

Consider this my friends over the pond and answer truthfully - there are moves afoot to reduce house burglary as a NON CRIME here in the UK! Now, tell me honestly, over in the USA what would you do if a crackhead was forcing his way into your home where your wife and kids are sleeping to commit what in the UK could soon be considered a "non crime?" Honest answers please!

I am a veteran 19yrs cop and I will say this ; In all seriousness... I could tell you tales that would curl your toes from my experiences!

No only am I seeing a larger presence here in Denver, their violent tactics have been increasing. For example, a guy got drunk at a Rockies game. He stumbled out of the park into the arms of he cops who then smashed his face into the ground knocking out his front teeth. Thanks goodness for cellphone videos. The whole thing was caught on tape!

Peace,

Gil

If someone were to use force to gain entry to my house and my family were home, that someone would probably eat lead. I will protect my family.

We should remember that Police Officers are human beings as well. They perform a tremendous service for us all - sometimes under extremely difficult and stressful conditions. True, sometimes they make mistakes and there are always the very few bad apples who taint their image. But where would we be without them? Each time I see a cop, I want to thank them for performing a service for the community that I'm not sure I'd have the courage to do in their place. Too many cops? I say not enough!

Here in the US the media can make or break you! Bad cops gets lots of attention but there are 99 good ones out of a 100. Although the media in the US in my humble opinion (and I know 1st hand) can not be trusted! If you play their political game, you will loose. And just because you read it in the paper or saw it on the TV,certainly does not mean its true! At least me and my family can still (for the time being) defend ourselves in our own home. But there will be a day (sooner than we all may think) when we no longer have that right. I feel for White Cloud but we in the US I fear are nearing similar actions! As for the presence of police, yes even in the small town in Texas in which I live our police force has liteally doubled in less that 2 years! A police force of 20 vehicles for a town with only 2000 population! If a speeder gets pulled over, there will be no less that 2 more squad cars show up within 2 minutes. Almost all cars are searched, even my 79 year old mother when she got pulled over. Why did she get pulled over? Profiling. No driving violations...she just looked old. Also when you have the revenue (taxes) government (weather local or national) will upgrade itself first. I have no answers. Its gotten way out of hand. You know whats strange...."To Protect and Serve" used to be on all our squad cars....now....Call 911...and thats it! I don't know !@%^!....we need inforcement of rights but when does it go to far?

Ah yes! I hope I never, ever, ever, EVER have to resort to that.

The county Sheriff is who strongly suggested that I keep firearms handy in the house and in the truck though (and have training), as I live in a high-methamphetamine (no pun intended) area and my home is not visible from the road. The police have a very difficult time keeping up..
