I teach emotionally disturbed teens and am a member of the crisis response team. I'm the poor jerk who has to make sure the kid with ADHD keeps his head down and his trap shut while I sweep the hall and make sure the door with the broken lock actually locks while wearing a ridiculous orange vest that tells the cops I'm a teacher but the intruder that I'm a target. It would be too tempting when a 300 pound kid shouts eff ewe n word while swinging at me when he runs out of meds and his parent won't take the time to get the RX refilled because it interferes with her "stories and isn't it your job to control him?".

Greg stated "im stayin away from this one".

Agreed; it has the smell of a politically sensitive issue about which people might understandably have very strongly held emotional positions.

The moderator in his previous post seems to suggest that we can't have a civilized discussion about important issues. In previous threads he has suggested that we go to other discussion boards to discuss such issues. But our friends are here, and we might like to discuss these issues with our friends rather than with strangers. Some of us might actually find the opinions of our friends here useful in reaching our own conclusions about such issues.

Dave, you're right. I tend to be overly protective of our group. It's just that I don't want to see friends become angered and upset with each other over issues that past experience suggests can be quite provocative. And guns in the U.S. is one of those issues. But you're right; I'm probably a bit over protective.

Steve; nothing inappropriate, nothing to apologize for. If you haven't read the posting guidelines yet, they are .. uh .. interesting.

And yes, as I regular member of this board, I sometimes disagree with, or at least question, what I, as moderator, might think about certain threads or posts. And I have made some posts that some could reasonably conclude to be outside the posting guidelines. I find it all so, as Toby alluded to, entertaining.

Well, it seems we have to do something. This will either work or it won't, but we won't know until we've tried it. It seems that while the possession of a gun allows school shootings and such to happen, the possession of a gun might also allow someone to save a bunch of lives. Tough call, though, for many reasons. Danno, thanks for doing what you do. Teachers, like soldiers and police, don't get paid what they should for the exposure they accept.

And I agree, Dave.. ;)

This just in from the AP ...

"Dave Houck, long-time moderator of the Alembic Club, has been admitted to the Bass Player's Home for the Moderating Challenged. After quoting himself, and referring to himself in the second person ("the moderator"), Mica Wickersham stepped in and administered some tough love. "Dave's a great guy," Wickersham stated, "but sometimes he just looks too much like Lee Sklar."

Houck is said to be resting comfortably in a room wallpapered with Alembic Series II bass posters, and has requested that all Alembic Club members send him all their basses. Further, he's demanded that he be given an Alembic Spyder because "I played one once."

Geez, I crack myself up sometimes!

The above is totally fictional. Just thought I'd add a bit of levity to this one!

Mike McCall; congrats on the S2!!

Sam; I've been in this neck of the woods for four years this month. I am planning a trip into town to visit the grocery store later today; I'm really looking forward to it!
