Wow, I was recently watching footage of the Zawinul syndicate (RIP Joe) live in Austria once more....I was left drooling again by the bass playing of Linley Marthe - he is an absolute monster player!

Does anyone here at the club know anything about Linley, any musical projects he is involved in....and more importantly how he gets that incredible sound out of that beat up old Jazz bass?????

He came to the first UK Bass Day in 2005. His flight was delayed so he ended up going on last around 9pm or possibly even later. His playing was astounding, only let down by the amp they'd provided crapping out. He did have a couple of pedals but I don't know what they were.

Graeme

p.s. TM Stevens will be at this years Bass day - interested? I still have at least one car seat spare.

I'll get in touch closer to the 25th - maybe you can suggest a pub we could all meet up at.

white cloud - was it the program from BBC3 about 3 years ago?? I was blown away by his playing, I think he uses a Mutron to get that almost fretless sound on his jazz bass, the solo with the drummer was astounding.
I have archived it to DVD so I can drool and maybe pick some of his licks up.

Lol...thats the one Terry! We obviously both have similar behaviour patterns as that is precisely what I have done!!!

I love his Jazz bass too! It has obviously had many thousands of hours being played in! Very cool.
