I've decided its about time to get myself a pickup for my double bass. I don't have any experience in this department as I have only ever played the double in an orchestral setting. If any club members have any experience they would like to share about the matter, I would love to hear your input! I would most likely be playing folky tunes and maybe some old-timey stuff as well, if that makes any difference. Thanks, -Robin |

The two that set the pace are the Don Underwood and the David Gage. Either sound great - Gage probably a bit better. Underwood is easy to install and sounds fine - I don't have personal experience with the Gage. Underwood is definitely more affordable. You do need a preamp though. You can get the Underwood at a decent music store, or you can order it online. |

Are you looking for something to be professionally installed or easily removable? Will you use an Preamp, Amp or go direct? Do you play both arco and pizzicato? (Message edited by FunkyJazzJunky on November 24, 2008) |

Schertler Stat. I used a Fishman BP-100 for years and always fought the "honk" from the piezo. The Schertler sounds like my bass. I would never go back to a piezo transducer. It's also easily removed if you're back in an orchestral setting where appearances matter. (I personally don't believe the Schertler impacts the acoustic tone at all, whereas the Fishman did.) arco and pizz probably use an amp personal installation preferred, professional a possibility but only as long as it wouldn't get in the way of my symphony obligations (i.e. it wouldn't mute the sound and have to be professionally uninstalled every time) |

I agree with wayne on staying a way from piezo. Check out an Underwood. Good Luck |
