Stayed home yesterday due to all the ice and snow we got, so had alot of time to stay home and ponder things (and get some alembic time in)... Had a profound mental breakthrough....WORK SUCKS!!! | ||

WOW I feel lucky. I started a new job back in October after 10 years at my old one. I wasn't looking for a change, my old job was pretty good, but was made an offer that I couldn't refuse. Mo' MONEY, less headache, went on a weeks paid vacation after only 1 month and in less than one week of starting here I was sleeping with the girl up front. ;) But to keep this in perspective of the thread Title, I did get a nasty paper cut last week! Glocke, While you were nice and toasty at home, I was out plowing snow. I just went for an MRI and it turns out I have two herniated cervical disks~ a 3y.o. injury I sustained while PLOWING SNOW... (nothing aggravates it more) BUT, HERE'S THE SILVER LINING...... Today's my first day of "Mr. Mom" duties with my 3 month old baby girl!!!!  I'm taking 6 weeks! Indeed, work blows! WHOOO HOOO!!!!!! | ||

I make my living teaching Behavioral Disorder (BD) teens ages 13 to 18. I have to teach all academic subjects often 3 during a class period. So figuring out how to present, explain, answer a myriad of unbelievable questions, test and grade US1, US2, World History, Bio, Chem, Earth Science, English Lit (to low or no reading comprehension), Al/Geo, Algebra 2. Consumer Math and Transition (preparation for the world of work) can be quite the gig. It does require you to develop patience, a tremendous sense of humor, and the Zen quality of letting things go. Most of these kids are products of extremely dysfunctional parenting. (by the time the kids reach high school the damage is deeply established and those at home have little to no control over their offspring). Drugs, alcohol, violence, neglect and abuse all play their part in shaping the psyche of these kids. I'm not complaining about my job.I work hard everyday and try to do my best to be a highly qualified and effective educator.(attempting to dispel the realistic notion that that are many teachers who have no business teaching, thank you Union) I have job security and I'm grateful for that (no shortage of special needs kids these days). I therefore humbly submit that I am totally qualified to be in a band! PS. take good care of your kids, love them (so that they actually know it) , clean them (and instruct them how to complete the task themselves), feed them, clothe them (in clean clothes, believe me I deal with this everyday), talk to them, listen to them and give them a set of values and principles that they can fall back on when the world doesn't make sense. They are your flesh and blood, not accessories or mistakes that ruined your dreams of glory. PSS. I don't have a wife or kids so I buy Alembics instead! | ||

I truly enjoy being a physician. However, it does require a degree of dedication often requiring you to put others needs ahead of your own. I would love to play in a band again (the last time I performed in front of an audience was Halloween night 1991), but it's just not possible because of the insane schedule/hours that I work. I'm going to keep it up until I'm 50 (coming up quickly), but then I'm going to back off a bit and have some "me" time. Is there much need for a 50 yr old bass player in the Hard Rock/Metal scene??? | ||
