I just bought the latest Mathew Garrison live cd and I have to say his playing firmly falls into the "absolute monster" category! Its fantastic stuff if you like fusion or are simply a bassist who likes listening to other virtuoso bassists!! What is it about the current generation of young bassists? I greatly admire the way Players like MG, Hadrien Feraud, Vic Wooten, Linley Marthe etc are forging ahead and making the instrument ever more musical and recognised. The techniques that guys like MG (incredible right hand technique) are developing and mastering is an inspiration to me!! Indeed - has the electric bass ever been more prominant a vehicle for virtuosity than right here & right now? I love it! John. |

matthew is pretty insane, and being the son of jimmy garrison doesn't hurt. i had a lesson with him at berklee a few years back, he's all into flamenco technique. pretty crazy. |
