I've seen sites that say Grenadillo is another name for Cocobolo, but others that say it is African Blackwood/Mozambique Ebony. Maybe the experts can tell you which is more accurate. Unfortunately, I believe that alternate names are sometimes used to confuse the consumer. If there are a couple woods with similar properties, they may share an "alternate name" in some circles. |

Wood? Dont get me started - I love it passionately! There are so many species, relatives of species, cousins of relatives of species and so on. With literally thousands of different species of trees wood is a very special and varied source of material! It also must be remembered that it is also extremely hard to define even one single species accurately because often two pieces from the same species are very different in appearance and even working properties! A lot of members here at the club think that Alembic have a massive choice of woods available but in fact, despite actually having a good varied choice of options, they are really "skimmining" the surface when you consider all the exotic (and not so exotic) species in the world! Schedua is also called Ovangkol and is considered, along with Cocobolo, to be one of the very finest choices available for electric bass tone. John. |
