There's been a couple of FTC threads that appear to have women's names. Sandy's Little Darling and Cassie's Left Little Darling.

Could be a Pat situation I guess

Shouldn't we make the Whippet's Dinkel lady an honorary member?

Don't forget the Corriettes Music lady (sorry for the likely misspelling)

As indicated above, there are a number of women who are members here. And as far as "seeing", Kimberly has quite a few videos up on youtube. She plays solo gigs on her five and six string Alembics. I love what she does; and she's been quite inspirational for me in trying to get my playing to where I can try to do something similar.

Roger... I hope you're not implying that only women play Darlings (ha ha ha!)

I always wanted to get a bumper sticker that read 'It takes a real man to play a Little Darling.' But I thought people might get the wrong idea.

So with the exception of Mica (who works for Alembic) there are not active forum members that are women.

Hi Guys, :-)

Heard my name and thought I'd see what the haps were. ;D

Well....let's see now. First things first. :-)

David (57basstra) - Thanks for remembering me! :-)

OO(Olieoliver)Olie - Why, thank you very much! Very nice compliment and very much appreciated. Puts a nice smile on the face. :-)

David (davehouck) - Thank you very much too! :-) I'm flattered you consider my 'schtick' and music inspirational. Awfully sweet compliment. :-)

Terry (terryc) - Thank you very much also! :-) As far as a place to stay, if and when you make it to the states, consider my offer an open one for anytime (Alembic gathering or not). :-)

Lastly and certainly not least, the guy who started it all, Vann-Di Galloway (funkyjazzyjunky). :-) Granted it's been awhile since I posted, but I'm here in spirit and read the posts somewhat regularly, so if one were to ask, I'd absolutely ID myself as an Alembic Club forum member at least in 'relatively' good standing. ;D

The 'semi-short' of my 'hiatus' breaks down to,

1) Injury to my fretting hand thumb which has impacted my performance schedule and only accepting limited bookings (not to mention cancelling a whole bunch of gigs by roughly 60% compared to last year). So far this year I've only played about 20 and am still only accepting limited engagements. This really sucks but, the positive is I'm getting better and while I was initially concerned about having to have surgery, this no longer appears to be in the cards. :-)

2) The emotional impact of not be able to play 'on demand' and concern about surgical 'intervention' has at times given me some serious bouts with depression. :-(

3) Personal issues of a relationship nature of which I'll spare everyone the details.

4) Just kidding, no number four. :D 1-3 are plenty enough. :-)

And therein lies the various roots of the matter. :-)

Still here and semi-well, it's good to be back! :-)

Best Regards,

Kimberly :-)

You were the first non-employee I thought of, Kimberly. Hope things straighten out for you with great rapidity and don't be a stranger.

I know I've seen posts on occasion from other female members, but they are definitely rare.

Kimberly!!!

I've been concerned about you; sent you an email even, about a week or so ago. But saw you had some bookings, so figured you must be ok.

Hi Guys, :-)

Thank you for all the kind thoughts! They are very much appreciated, thank you! :-)

One of the coolest and nicest things about the Alembic online community, the concern and caring about the members by the members. Sweet! :-)

Back on topic (kinda). ;)

I remember a girl Epic owner from Montreal, (I think it was), named Bonnie, (I think), that posted a few times here, but it has been awhile. :-(

Back off topic. ;)

I do find it interesting though the definite disproportion of male to female bassists out there 'in the world'. I know locally to me there are a few I'm aware of, (even an upright soloist, Wow!) but comparatively it's hundreds (or likely more) to one, male to female. I wonder why? Bass was/is and always has been a natural 'calling' to me. Very interesting. Insert puzzled expression emoticon. ;)

Granted I've heard the physical size of a bass can be intimidating, but with a couple of female students I've had, it's all been a matter of experience with 'hands on' to get over the size issue. Hmmm....risque/bad joke/double entendre etc potential/opportunity. Never mind. ;D

Seriously, I'm in contact with female bassists literally all around the world, but there still exists this very real disproportionate male to female ratio. I just don't get it. Insert thoughtful expression emoticon. :-)

Nuff of this. :-)

Wandering off shaking my head and muttering. ;)

Best Regards to Everyone,

Kimberly :-)

PS. It *is* so good to be part of this community. I just love it! :-)

Hey Kimberly, good to see you back! Remember, all things must pass, so hang in there!

I believe the bass player for the cult-band Betty, Alyson Palmer, plays an Epic. My wife was into them, and we saw them about 8 years ago, and even before I could see the bass, I said "That's an Alembic!"

Kimberley..good to hear from you and thank you for the offer.
I have 'frozen shoulder' syndrome right now, can still play but it is difficult slinging a 14lb bass over my neck but it's only pain..better than the alternative.
Relationships...25 years I endured, not all bad, not all good either, two great kids(graphic designer & musician/technician).
Don't want that anymore, people have said I will meet someone but right now I am enjoying my freedom.
Hope the injury heals soon and you can get back gigging because that is what we all were born for.
Best wishes
