This really was a good show. Interesting and very bluesy first set. Shakedown Street was so funky they probably should have declared the place an environmental hazard. Warren never quite got with the program on Scarlet > Fire, though they weren't bad. The rest of the second set was extremely spacey and jammy (very tasty). Then a rockin' Satisfaction to close. Typical Saturday encore. Really happy I made the drive to LA for this one. The boys can still throw down!

Peace

Happy to say that I was really, really impressed as well; Warren really did channel both Jerry and Pigpen's spirits in the first set, which blew me away on many levels -- it was a sonic time machine back to 1967.

Either way, this was probably the best effort I've seen from The Boys -- collectively or on their own -- since about '93. Hope they do it again in the fall.

Brian; that's an interesting statement as I've thought that some of the Phil & Friends stuff has been very good. I'm glad to hear they are playing so well! And I'm glad you guys are getting to see them!

I still say Warren overuse's that godawful leslie effect, but otherwise it was a good show...

Oh, I agree, Dave -- Phil has absolutely been putting on some really good shows the last few years! He's been the standard-bearer for a while now, IMHO.

But I heard a synergy and continuity in that first set that I personally hadn't experienced jelling quite like that in a long, long time. (And I don't think my perceptions were too unduly influenced by funny-tasting brownie I ate before going in, either!)

Second set was fairly standard (I totally agree that the Scarlet > Fire never took off) but, O Lord, that first set was on fire ....
