I have just sat through the satelite tv show "John Entwhistle - an ox's tale" here in the UK for the first time - it struck me how much of an influence, consciously & unconsciously that John had on me in my formative years as player...it sounds wierd but its almost as if I had forgotten!

The sound of John live with his Alembic exploiter actually, for me defines the finest rock bass tone of any era. Incredible.

It still astounds me that John moved away from Alembic to Warwicks and Status etc where he absolutely lost THAT tone that blew me away!

John.

JE is my biggest influence and for me personally he is one of the best rock bassists ever, if not the best.
I also love the sound of his Alembic era most......
I do my best with our WHO band WHO ARE YOU to pay tribute to him.....

I second what Oliver says.
His influence stretches way beyond the boundaries of where you'd think it'd stop. Every bass guitarist is influenced by him in some small way - whether they realise it or not IMHO.
I've been playing for 25 years and no 'major' player has come close to influencing me like The Ox.
