 My favorite and one of John's favorite pics, this hangs in my home studio and was autographed to me and given as a gift from John 3 months prior to his death, at the time I scanned it, scanner couldn't get it all to big but it is a 11x17 in a matted frame hanging over my equipment for inspiration. regarding the statement by John Hughes, John Entwhistle informed me that the reason for the switch to Warwick and Status was due to weather conditions, playing stadiums in europe and the moisture had great effect on the Alembic necks so he decided to try the Graphite route of one piece body and neck solid mass construction. In the end though he did say that he loved the feel but loved the Alembic tone much better. Beautiful weather here in Vancouver and the air so crisp and clean. RIP John you deserve it! That's a fantastic picture, Thanks for that and relaying John's thoughts on basses. This reminds me ; I have an interview with JAE on reel to reel and need to have it digitized before the tape degrades...anyone out there with some good reel to reel equipment? I have an old Akai that I wouldn't trust with this tape....I've yet to hear what's on it. Thanks John | ||

Thanks for the info from the ox's mouth (lol) regarding my statement John, I appreciate it! Dont get me wrong, Im not saying I didnt still enjoy John playing the Warwick or the Status (or any of the other myriad of basses he played over the decades) - its just that I think he nailed the PERFECT rock tone with the Alembic! Its a real shame he encountered neck problems. Did Alembic not offer the option of graphite rod reinforced necks? It might have made a difference. John. | ||

Morning everyone, nope I am doing some session work in Vancouver, B.C. Tony but I sure wouldn't mind living here, beautiful city and the air is wonderful, very pretty I have been on a Movie lot place called The Bridge Studio's not sure if you are familiar with that place or not, on the north side of Vancouver near Burnaby town called Henning? it is a huge complex and state of the art. John hughes, John wanted things to work immediately if you know what I mean and all the amp changing was trying to find a way to make the Status give him the sound he wanted and support the local Hometown guy (London Rob Green of Status) you know if you could, you would buy a guitar built in your city probably first if you could get it to sound the way you wanted and the person selling you the Idea that he could do that for you and give you the sound, well designing your own and hoping it sound's good is just a way to test the waters for the next design to make it better, so when does it ever stop?..never ! or until one's mind fail's to function anymore. Mr. Judge- you are likely in North Vancouver near the Second Narrows bridge, which is right near Burnaby and HASTINGS is a street that runs from downtown Vancouver through Burnaby...if you can, get someone to take you around the north shore mountains- I would, but I don't drive...any of the mountains are great viewpoints, and Lynn Canyon suspension bridge is really nice; unless you're afraid of heights...Deep Cove is nice too, I used to live there... If you can, take some extra time and be a tourist. Vancouver is a beautiful city and many locals forget how lucky we are...If you need a tour guide, I'm the only TONY SELL in the phone book...Tony. | ||

Thanks so much Tony for that info, this morning I went by the mountains with the help of a aid from the studio and we traveled Hw1 lynn canyon road exit to the lynn canyon suspension bridge. All I can say is WOW! 166 ft up and very narrow, I also walked part of the Baden/Powell trail while there and we stopped for a picnic lunch, totally breath taking view and I highly recommend it to everyone, Vancouver is absolutely beautiful and the pools of blueish water below the bridge are awesome, thanks Tony, wish I had more time for tourism but I fly back wednesday morning wish I could stay another week here. If I can get my work done early tomorrow Tony I will give you a call take care John | ||

Awesome! Tuesday's my day off...glad you got to see some stuff...the north shore is wonderful and the best part is you can be in the mountains from downtown in less than an hour, even by bicycle; not many places can claim that... I'll get my errands done early then, and hopefully we can connect for something....Tony. ps. Vancouver is one of those places where you can snowboard in the morning, go mountain biking and swim in the same day; I know, because I did, just to see if it was possible...mind you, the window of opportunity for that is small...and I lived in deep cove where it all comes together, so... |
