Well, this is a bit far removed from anything that this board is about, but it is called miscellaneous for a reason I guess. I'm not normally a very superstitous individual, and dont get freaked out about things very often, but I found that following somewhat strange. Has anyone ever been to a place that just down right gives them the creeps or been to some place that just gives off a very strong bad vibe? I was hiking behind my house the other day. It is very serene and peaceful back there, and ended up going a little further than I normally do. Eventually I came to an area of the woods that for no reason at all, just gave me a very creepy, eerie vibe...my dog that was with me even picked up on it and became very submissive and whiny. Than today, I was hiking with a buddy back there, and we came to the same exact area, and without me saying anything about my impression of the area to him, he made a comment about how the place was really giving off a negative, creepy vibe to him. Kind of odd.....Im not really sure what to think about it.... |

Sometimes gut feelings are right. Plus if your dog had a curious reaction, it could reinforce that something is amuck. Canines "see" the world different then we do. Not so sure how often I would keep heading back there . . . |

I saw this in a movie. Take this hint: When you run, don't look back! In the movies, they ALWAYS trip when they look back! If you must go back again, wait until after the NJ gathering! |

Playing frat houses always give me the creeps. Not like what you experienced but it is a very uneasy feeling. |

Well superstition apart there has been some scientific investigation into this, sometimes the earth's magenetic field waves can eddy through the earth at different points. Some animals use this as navigation, they say we all still have it but have lost it through evolution although if it is powerful enough we still may sense it, as mentioned dogs are very sensitive to the enviroment around them. This creepy eerie vibe could be more powerful magnetic eddy currents leeching through at this area. Glocke..is there absence of bird song?, this could be the cause. |

For all the exposure to "civilized" we are still hard wired to some very primal emotions that we absolutely depended on when we were lower on the evolutionary ladder. I've only experienced them rarely but I've learned to trust them implicitly. There's a reason they happen (magnetic fields notwithstanding) and too much thinking/questioning might not be in our best interest. If I saw the dog feeling it too you would've seen my back getting smaller in the opposite direction! For a good dose of the creeps check out some H.P.Lovecraft. Several of his stories feature places in the woods like that. (Message edited by bassilisk on July 28, 2009) |

I had an apartment once that I think was haunted. I had regular nightmares while living there. I didn't have nightmares prior to living there and haven't had any since moving out about 15 years ago. And it was infested with scorpions. |

I grew up in the Yacolt burn area of Washington. It was a beautiful place in daylight but at night you did not go into the woods. There was just an odd creepy vibe to it and it was still pretty wild country back then. We saw some strange things over the years in the woods. Saw a kind of giant bee once and a UFO while sleeping out under the stars once. Used to hear odd things at night too. Dave |

Creepy: Mrs. Chappell's office, principal South Ridgewood Elementary. Never saw the paddling machine, but I swear it was there. Contrary to the creeps, two of the coolest places I've ever hung out at are the English Gardens, Munich and the banks of the Isar River in Grunwald. |

I've learned to trust the gut; every time I ignored it, my ass was bit...Hell, ya might wanna send a forensic team in there; something way bad may be there...that kinda stuff drives me crazy because it isn't rational, but it's there, which makes questions of many other things.....Tony |

I've been to places like that, from time to time. One in particular is The Conneaut Lake Hotel, in Conneaut Lake, PA. The third floor is reputed to be haunted, and I'll tell you guys, straight up, it's creepy as hell, even in broad daylight. There's just this strange vibe to the place, that leaves you unsettled. The floors seem to be tilted to one side, in some areas, almost like a fun house. It could just be that they're warped, but the whole place throws off your equilibrium. People have reported seeing full bodied apparitions there, such as a lady in white, named Elizabeth, who died waiting for her fiance (or maybe husband) to come back from the war and now wanders the halls of the hotel eternally... They say that when she's near, you'll smell roses (or flowers of some kind, not really sure). There's another ghost, there, where you'll smell sulfur or rotten eggs, and this ghost is reported to be evil. Like I said, I've walked those halls, during the day, and it is a creepy, creepy place, even in broad daylight. There are other places I've been, like random basements, on my job as a telephone/circuit repairman, where I get this feeling, and I try to get out of there, as soon as possible. I know there's other places, I've been, like that, but I can't recall exactly where... I'll see you at the NJ Gathering, Gregory, and everyone else that's attending. Peace;) Frank P.S. Yes, H.P. Lovecraft is very, very creepy. There's a couple other authors, like that, but none quite so creepy as him. |

"Hell, ya might wanna send a forensic team in there;" thats exactly the kind of vibe it was..Like it was some kind of crime scene or something. It did have a "lovecraft" feel to it, no birds in the area, or other wildlife present. |

4th floor, Hostetter Hall, the former campus of Shimer College, Mt. Carroll, IL. An exchange I heard variations of on more than one occassion (different people each time): "Do you beleive in ghosts?" "Of course not. Don't be ridiculus!" "Wanna go up on 4th florr Hostetter tonight?" "No f***ing way! Are you nuts!?!?!" I went up after dark once. Did not do it twice. Peter |
