Hi, My name is Danno and I'm an Alemboholic. I always say this will be my last one, then I talk to Mica and Susan and I order another bass. Each time I just get deeper and deeper into it. I mean, its not like I have a problems..... like those series 2 guys........I just like how they make me feel...........I'm not in denial or anything.............No I don;t own a jazz or p bass......... I can't talk about it right now........No I don't like coffee............Got any tea? ........Imported if you got it.......No, I'm not into styrofoam, no offense,,,,,,.I have my own custom of the month mug with me. Dairy powdered coffee creamer isn't much better than non-dairy, if you ask me. Come to think of it, even dairy non-powdered coffee creamer will be bad if the coffee itself is anywhere near half decent. Not wanting to spend loads of money on a full-blown espresso machine, I wound up buying the smallest Bialetti Moka Express stove-top espresso. Fill it up with enough Segafredo ground espresso. Add a lump of sugar, that's it. If you take two shots of the stuff, you won't sleep. (Message edited by adriaan on September 17, 2009) | ||

Ever had a proper coffee? Not the waste water they serve at Starbuck's. I once met a lady from Brazil who felt her national pride was offended by the American way of roasting coffee beans. The German way of roasting is not much better if you ask me (nee, dankje). | ||

I've been to Sweden, but can't say I've had the best of luck with the coffee there. There was a restaurant in the Dutch town of Tilburg where they served "Belgian coffee" from a contraption that made you try figuring out how it worked, a great after-dinner conversation piece ... Let's see ... Wikipedia has an entry on Vacuum coffee maker. This mentions the "balance siphon", and then Google finds me the Belgium Royal 4C Cafe GOLD Balance Syphon Coffee Maker. That's the one! The best coffee I had was in Senegal. And did you know non dairy creamer is FLAMMABLE! cut a small corner or poke a tiny hole in the package and let it stream out over a flame. Whoosh! When are the meetings? I just got "Edwin" and now I feel the need for a S2. What's wrong with me? | ||

Whats wrong with starbucks coffee? Their coffee is one of the few I can drink without gagging... The only other coffee Ive had that doesnt cause a gag reflex is coffee from a small roaster I used to frequent in my college days.. | ||

"Whats wrong with starbucks coffee?" 1) They roast the beans too fast - makes it way too bitter. 2) Cardboard cups. 3) Obscene prices. 4) Silly "coffee beverages". Gimme a cup of coffe, dammit! But #1 is the most egregious - it tastes like crap (yeah, yeah, OK, to my mouth - but mine is the only one that matters to me  ). If it makes you feel better, I don't like any of the other chain coffee places much better. You want coffee? Go to a diner or a truckstop. Or a Walker Brothers Original Pancake House. Or Jamaica (Blue Mountain - now that's what I'm talkin' about!) Peter | ||

Not equating, Dave, just enumerating choices preferable to Starbucks. I never found a truck stop that that served Blue Mountain (curse it all), but I found very few that served bad coffee. I see it sort of like Blue Mountain is the Alembic of coffes, truckstops are the other high-end builders, & Starbucks is my old $75 (W/amp)Winston P-bass copy. Though I must take a moment here to give props to a joint we used to call "the fancy eatin' place". It's in Chicago, on Irving Park Road at Ashland Ave, and the sign just says "diner". It's a 24-hr place that has these 2 big silver urns like the ones in Hopper's Nighthawks, and I don't think they've been turned off since about 1939. Yeah, it's an acquired taste - got kind of an edge to it - but man, 1 large to-go cup in the AM can keep you cranking from Chi to any town in the midwest & right on through the gig! Okay I am an Alembicholic but since I only own one I guess it's a one bass addiction unlike some of you who have many basses to choose from. Coffee..Stabucks..overpriced and no taste, taking over the UK too. I have roasted my own beans..do it very very slow over a few hours in a low heat oven..the aroma is divine. Grind in a pestle & mortar if you feel strong and energetic and if you want a great taste use the purest bottled water and don't put the water on the grounds when it has boiled..let it cool just slightly and for the sweet tooths..unrefined cane sugar. Takes some effort but it is worth it. | ||

Hi, my name is John i am an Alembicholic. I spend countless hours printing out basses on the custom quote generator. I spend lots of time looking at featured customs over an over. I open the cases to say goodnight to my Alembic basses. I visit the Alembic site more than facebook. I need help. John. www.gobena.org for coffee..actually a Starbucks venti iced regular coffee is good when playing in the summer as the ice melts it smoothes out the taste and still a good caffeine buzz. I try to quit I really do. This past year I sold 5 of my non custom models, but then I ordered a new one, the most custom for me to date. That will bring me up to an even dozen. If I hit the big time, the series 2 6 will be ordered! I shudder to think about that phone call to Santa Rosa! | ||

I guess I qualify now: I sold my previously-beloved-by-me Yamaha neck-thrus a few weeks ago as it dawned on me that while they were just fine 'off the rack' basses, no matter what I did, they still were just lame alongside my Alembics. | ||

THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS FOR ME! I was chatting with the mothership yesterday and brought up that each time the specs and prices on my ideas just keep rising (my fault not Alembics) but they always accommodate my wishes. I have to stay away from S2 basses at all cost. Otherwise the cost will be more than I should responsibly endure. Because by next month I will be Dave Ramsey out of debt, (until Mica sends me the bill for the ten'er). |
