I am fortunate to own two Alembic basses, a 4 string Epic, and a 5 string Europa. There is no doubt that these are my favorite basses, in looks, feel, and tone. I just love em. The good news is that they have not spoiled me for other basses. I still get great joy from my other, "lesser" instruments. Tonight I was at Guitar Center, being typically unimpressed by all the usual stuff, Fenders, Squiers, Warwicks, Ibanez, MusicMan, etc., and I happened upon a used Spector Spectorcore, 4 string, fretted, chambered body with a sexy F-hole, an EMG and a Fishman piezo bridge, in a gorgeous amberburst with a quilted maple top. It played great, sounded great, and is very attractive. They are asking $450, I'm going to see how low they will go. I came home and played my Europa, but I know that if I can score this Spector, I will enjoy it too. I just love bass guitars. I love bass amps too! Goodnight, JBY | ||

Congrats on your beautiful Spector! I have a NS2000Q5 (that's what it was called, originally) solidbody w/dual pickups, bolt on 35" scale and black stain over quilted maple. She was my main bass for 10 years. Loved the playability and the sound. Enjoy yours! I, too, can appreciate that while Alembics are a universe apart from everything else, there are still other sweet instruments in their own right from countless other manufacturers. However, I can't imagine anybody else's forum being nearly as informative, entertaining or ADDICTIVE as ours... | ||

Nice! Congrats on your new Spector. Sounds like you got a great deal - enjoy! I just happened to pick one up last week myself. I have (and have had) a wide assortment of basses but never a Spector so I went for it (I've always been a sucker for white basses anyway - had to try it). It's a '98 NS-4CR and it's in excellent plus condition. I gigged it this weekend and I am liking it a lot. Very well done and a tone all its own (I have another bass with EMG P/J and it sounds quite different). I think 88persuader says it all. I really enjoy my 3 Alembics, but I also enjoy the broad pallette all of my basses provide. Variety is the spice!  | ||

I've owned, bought and sold a lot of basses in the past, but now there's only two left. Can't imagine selling either one of them, or needing anything else anymore. I've got a 1982 Yamaha BB1000S that covers all the bas(s)es Blondie (1983 Series I shortscale) doesn't: passive Precision with flatwounds. These old BB-series Yamahas are true classics in their own right. I've strung it with original NOS 60s LaBellas and the tone is to die for, instant Rocco Prestia, James Jamerson, George Porter Jr. and Roger Waters! Wilfred | ||

I am currently getting the interior of my house painted, so half my basses are stored at work, and the rest are crammed in a closet. I know it will look good when it's done, but I hate not having instruments strewn about the house. |
