Okay I did something either stupid or I didn't know what I was doing. Last weekend my pc would not start up, it has done this before so I put my Windows XP service pack 2 disc into the drive and merrily clicked re install when I should have clicked repair.. and yes it erased everything..pics, mp3's midi.. the whole damn lot!! My neighbour over the road is a computer programmer and he gave me a data recovery disc to which I am ploughing through..no easy task I can say but for some reason the sound card will not work and I don't have the originals driver files as it was built for me. I have looked in 'device manager' in 'control panel' and it has that dreaded yellow ? mark... unknown media card so Xp cannot give me the make or ID of the sound card. Can I load some generic drivers into the system to get the damn thing working as I luckily backed up some mp3's on my seagate USB unit..I should have backed the pics up but you know..'I'll do it tomorrow!' and then shit happens. So I reiterate..can I get some generic drivers to get my sound back??? help help help!! |

Hello Terry: Do you know if the sound card is integrated to the motherboard? Post the model of the motherboard if you have it |

As Roberto suggested, the first step may be to open the machine up and determine if there is a separate sound card, or if the sound card is integrated into the motherboard. A separate card probably has some identifying information written on it. The motherboard may as well. |

Dave..it was built for my specs..case,m/board, processor etc..no generic make ie Acer, Compaq etc. No worries, I will get it sorted soon, it looks like it is IT failure week for me as our works department which has had a change over of systems has gone into meltdown today..not my worry though ha ha ha |
