Well Ladies & Gentlemen, I'm writing to you this fine evening from the Intensive Care Unit of Kishwaukee Hospital. Seems the pains, flushing, etc, that prompted the lovely & charming Mrs. Cowboy to haul my reluctant ass here yesterday AM have turned out to be what you call your mild Myocardial Infarction. What a bloody nuisance. It looks relatively well for the future - angiogram found 0% blockage in all but 1 artery; ultrasound tomorrow to clafify the last one; no signs of significant damage, etc. Still, no fun & a serious cause of buttockal agony. And of course, while the good news is no blockage, the bad news is that lack leaves them bewildered as to why I freakin' infarcted in the first place. Crap.

I wish you well.

When I had mine the doctor could only attribute the cause to stress. Like you everything looked good except for one very small artery. The end result was the doctor said, "I was lucky to get the warning and that it was time to change my line of work".

That's the thing about a MI: all blockages aren't "fixed". You may have ruptured a plaque, occluded an artery, had a "small" infarct, then the occlusion "dissolved". Alternately, it could have been secondary to vasospasm. Whatever the situation, take it as a wake-up call and make whatever changes you need to make in order to prevent a recurrence.

Peter:

All the best from the left coast. Hope all goes well and your biggest problem should only be which strings to use on your bass.

Hope they figure out the cause and hats off to Mrs. Cowboy for her powers of observation and persuasion to get you in to the docs.

Peter,
All the best from another brother who had my wakeup call in the 80s. Yes it's survivable, but you gotta make some changes to give yourself the best chance at an active future.
Keep making music and have a happy holiday with senior management.

Well, now I'm just confused. First, the ER doc said "indications of mild MI". Then the attending GP said "Heart attack - you have to live the rest of your life as a person with coronary desease." Then Cardiologist #1 said "2 out of 3 indicators of heart attack, let's do an angiogram.....all cardiac arteries are clear. I can't tell you what caused your symptoms." Finally Cardiologist #2 said "I don't think you had a heart attack." Huh. Well, the gist is I'm home, feeling fine, and apparently (except for the 90 extra pounds) healthy. Today I take my chart to my primary care doc to start figuring out what the hell happened Sunday. Thanks for all the good thoughts; I'll store them until they're needed.

There's your problem - you can't put bass strings on a guitar.

Peter; wow! I hope you get it figured out; but whether or not the experts give you an answer, do as our experts above have so rightly suggested and heed the wakeup call. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts and heart.

Thanks so much for the call, Dave - it's great to have a voice to go with the words, and was quite a nice reminder what a family this place really is.

Peter-

Good luck to you in finding out what exactly happened, and why. Often there are more questions than answers when it comes to medical issues. I'll keep you in my prayers, and I hope you and your wife have a relaxing and happy holiday season.

A post on another thread reminded me that I hadn't updated you - and after you were all so kind! I'm a Bad Person. Anyway, after much more testing...it was not a heart attack, the heart & arteries are fine, no probs - "Sorry, I can't explain your syptoms; sometimes people just get a false heart attack, we don't know why. You should be fine." But SWMBO is still a little leery of me doing things like shoveling snow ("let it go - take it easy!") It's a beautuful thing.
