Most of you know I'm a set-up nut.

After fighting my axes for years, I finally, with the help of Dan Erlewine's terrific GUITAR PLAYER REPAIR GUIDE book, and the Alembic features of the one piece bridge and adjustable nut and double truss rods, taught myself to set them up JUST like I like them.

I ran across this really straightforward setup guide on the Fender website:

www.fender.com/support/bass_guitar_setup_guide.php

By using these factory setup measurements, it gives you a great beginning spot from which to pursue your own personal setup. It may be just fine for you 'as is'.

Until you get real used to doing it yourself, this reduces the process to a set of repeatable numbers, taking all the mystery out of this.

Of course, it's only for 4- or 5-string basses, though you would probably be OK with a six as well. Remember that Alembics use a 12" radius, and they don't list your clearance over the first fret, though Fender in a reply to my EMail query uses .022" over the first fret under all strings.

PS: Luthier's Mercantile (www.lmii.com) has a terrific price on the Dan E book.
